"The Lakeland hotel served its purpose ok for a one-night stay to visit a local friend. My standard single room was clean and functional, but fairly basic in terms of comfort and amenities. No view, but on the positive side, the outlook onto a panelled side wall meant no road noise, so the room was quiet and peaceful during the night. Bed was comfortable apart from the pillows which were both too solid/firm for me (and I generally like a firm-ish pillow!) Maybe one softer one plus one firm one would give guests a helpful choice? A glass provided in the room would be nice too. Shower cubicle very small, but good water temperature and pressure. The main part of the Breakfast was nicely cooked and enjoyable, but the coffee was terrible! - I found it undrinkable - it tasted as if it had been stewing for a few hours, and certainly wasn't freshly brewed when I went down to breakfast in the latter part of the breakfast time window. Reception staff friendly and polite. Very helpful in providing a replacement TV remote, when I reported one as missing from the room."

"Firstly checked in to find previous guests clothes in wardrobe, then the spa bath didn't work even though we were supposed to have been upgraded , then there was about 6 months dust on top of four poster bed ,the bed was broken and only fixed by a 3mm screw ( dangerous) . Was moved to a twin room for 1 night then put in superior room only to find someone's tablet under the bed runner which should of been clean linen clearly not . Put in a complaint to manager and hasn't even had the decency to respond . If u have any sense please stay somewhere else as that tablet could of killed a child or dog but the owner and manager clearly isn't bothered about safety protocols"

"We stayed 3 nights in the family room, and really enjoyed our time there! The property and its pub/restaurant are lovely, and the beer is great too! The room is well prepared, clean and has everything you would need. Breakfast was lovely! A nice cooked menu and also some continental items to get stuck into, while you wait for your cooked breakfast. My only negative feedback for our stay, would be the waiting time for the cooked breakfast to come out. For me this really needs to be sped up. We waiting an average of 30-40 mins for the cooked breakfast to come out after ordering it each moening. I appreciate that as there are only 8 rooms to cater for, that they may like to cook everything fresh, but perhaps starting to cook a number of sausages earlier would save time. Apart from that its a great hotel!"

"We stayed overnight at The Gateway Inn for a nearby family function and it was absolutely lovely - we wish we could have stayed longer and definitely intend to come back. The staff are friendly and welcoming, the rooms and bar/restaurant are all comfortably and beautifully finished. Our room was impeccably cleaned, furnished beautifully and had lovely amenities included (toiletries and tea/coffee, biscuits). Do pay attention to the hotel’s flag when booking about some rooms being less accessible to some patrons. We had to use quite a small, curved staircase part of the way to get to the room. The room at the end was well worth it and it was not an issue for us but it might be more difficult to use for others. The breakfast was delicious too and reasonably priced. We’re definitely going to try and visit again for a longer stay rather than a quick stop over."
