Multiday hikes starting from the town include the Routeburn Track, Rees and Dart Track and Greenstone/Caples Track. These tracks cross sections of the Fiordland National Park and Mount Aspiring National Park, both part of the UNESCO-protected Te Wahipounamu heritage area.
