George Washington Carver National Monument

Statue of a young George Washington Carver located on the property he was born into slavery on. He would leave here in 1875 at age 11 to attend a 'colored' school. His thirst for education would continue throughout his life leading him to a teaching job at the Tuskegee institute. It's an inspirational story that is well documented and explained at this National Monument.

We stopped here hoping to see more fish but we didn't. Instead, we saw a couple of dogs that had jumped into one of the ponds. They kept barking and I noticed they wanted to get out but couldn't. After waving a couple of the employees down, we were able to help the dogs out. One was super grateful and wanted to jump on me but I ran because I didn't want to get wet. The other dog wasn't too happy with us but we got to see them both run away together.
Who else can say they got to save two cute dogs at a hatchery? :)
