Fårup is simply a great place for a family holiday. Go wild in the theme park, go to the beach or enjoy a bit of Danish culture.
Fårup is synonymous with Fårup Sommerland, the biggest and most popular theme park in the whole of Denmark. Fårup also has wonderful scenery and a breath-taking beach front for you to enjoy.
A mere 6miles from Blokhus and the North Sea, a lot of people travel to Fårup to enjoy the outdoor life. In the summer, people come to enjoy its endless sandy beaches, and in the winter, long walks in the bracing westerly winds provide visitors with breath-taking views of the local surroundings. No matter when you come (and when the wind is right), there are lots of wind sports to choose from, including windsurfing or kitesurfing.
Fårup is home to the lovely Saltum Church dating back to 1150, and has been extended and modified many times over the years. Despite these extensions and modifications, you can still see the original lime paintings dating back to1520 on the vaulted ceiling that have never been painted over. They were restored in the early 20th century and cleaned in the 1960s.
If you’ve got the kids with you, Fårup Sommerland is a must, with plenty of slides and rides on offer, and the massive Aquapark, with its water slides of all shapes and sizes and a wave pool, is ideal for a hot summer’s day. And when you need something good to eat, drop by Fårup Skovhus, formerly one of the most remote schools in the country, but is now an excellent restaurant.
The easiest way to get to Fårup by road is to follow route55 towards Saltum. Public transport includes taking the train to Aalborg and then changing for the bus. You can also fly to Aalborg Airport and continue by bus – but you may have to change on the way.
Spend a weekend holiday in Fårup and enjoy quality family time together. Take the opportunity to visit some of the other charming towns nearby, such as Løkken.
