"I stayed recently in a Superior Double Room and can easily say this was one of the nicest rooms I have stayed in before! It was absolutely amazing. The decor very tasteful and the amount of space was incredible! I usually never sleep particularly well on my first night anywhere, but I had no trouble whatsoever! "Amazing, the photos do not do it justice, lovely cosy cottage a home from home and fully equipped. Great location, short walk to village incl pubs and chippy, also access to walks (which pass through livestick fields so dogs on leads). Grizedale forest was a short drive away with really good (long & short) walks, better for dogs off leads. "

Fortunately for us the heat wave that affected the country at the end of May meant that we didn’t use the car but instead relaxed in the beautiful gardens, went on short walks or just watched the steamers come and go from the nearby landing. "Absolutely loved our stay. The hotel is lovely, the spa is amazing, definitely worth booking in for the full spa 3 hours, the food is good but to be honest it’s the staff that make it. Such a lovely bunch!"

"This is an older hotel in a gorgeous location right on Grasmere Lake. The interior has been modernized, which some traditionalists lament, but it is very comfortable. There is humorous, whimsical art throughout the facility. The large spa is a real plus. Breakfasts are ample and offer plenty of options. Large bathtubs in the rooms are very nice. Our shower stall often smelled musty, but this could be relieved by leaving the door open. A full length mirror in each room would be a good addition....

"The staff at the hotel were fantastic. Friendly and helpful. The breakfast choice was excellent. I do stay in a lot of hotels and the breakfast was one of the best in my opinion. Pool and spa area all clean. A bit dated in places. The bedroom was exceptionally clean with fresh water and tea coffee biscuits each day. The only negative was our room was extremely hot. Was altogether a wonderful hotel made mostly by the lovely staff."

"Only small gripe was the shower head had a bit of black mould on it and one roller blind came away whilst I was closing it. Luckily my husband was able to clip it back in quickly. Room and bedding both clean, grounds beautiful and well maintained. Breakfast was fantastic, quality hot cooked breakfast and very pleasant staff. We would visit again, thank you."
