Florida Travel Guide

About Florida

World famous theme parks, perpetually warm weather, and 1,328 km of beautiful beaches are a few reasons why over 90 million tourists visit Florida each year. Flights which travel the 15,394 km distance between Bangkok and this 'Sunshine State' without stopping, a journey which lasts nearly 20 hours, are scarce. However, there are connecting flights from Bangkok to Florida cities such as Orlando, Miami, or Fort Lauderdale.

Don’t Miss

Summer average temperatures can soar up to 34°C throughout this state famous for its hot and sunny weather. Winter is Florida's busiest tourism season as many visitors escaping colder weather in the northern United States flock to the state's southern section, where winter temperatures average over 21°C. Spring may be the best time to come to Florida to escape the summer heat, winter crowds, and this time sees a number of festivals, like the Florida Strawberry Festival and the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.

Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld, and most other famous Florida theme parks are situated within the Orlando area. Lively Miami; historic St Augustine, with its colonial architecture; and the Kennedy Space Center are all situated on Florida's east coast. The quieter Gulf Coast includes Tampa's Busch Gardens; and St Petersburg, with its Salvador Dali museum.

Restaurants and Bars

Grouper is the fish most commonly served at Florida seafood restaurants, whose menus also include marlin, tarpon, and snapper. Black beans, rice, and Cuban sandwiches are some of the dishes from Cuba, while North Florida, like Alabama and Georgia, contains barbecue shacks which serve up iced sweet tea and collard greens. Miami's South Beach, Key West's Duval Street, Orlando's CityWalk, and Pensacola's Seville Quarter are among Florida's hottest nightlife zones.

Activities

Water sports lovers can choose between Atlantic Ocean surfing, Key West snorkelling, Lake Okeechobee white water rafting, Intracoastal Waterway sailing, and deep sea fishing. Florida is also a golfing hotspot with over 1,100 outstanding courses. The Everglades and Florida Keys have become popular eco-tourism destinations. The Atlantic Coast's A1A, the Gulf Coast's U.S. 98, and northern Florida's U.S. 90 provide some of Florida's most scenic road trips.

Shopping

Florida's shopping capital is Miami, a city whose unique districts include Little Havana, the Design District, and Coconut Grove. St Petersburg also has a decent number of shopping districts like Beach Drive, the BayWalk complex, and the Pier. No Walt Disney World visit would be complete without purchasing a pair of Mickey Mouse ears.
