"This place is a jewel. I highly recommend this to any Western traveller looking for a little oasis on their journey. Rooms are spacious. Everything works. Staff is VERY welcoming and sincerely helpful. Restaurant is excellent, and its rooftop location is refreshing. The cocktail bar is one of the best I've seen in my travels through 8 African countries over 15 years. Just sayin'. (Remember: ice cubes at your own risk if you are a foreigner. Usual precautions remain.)
I was fine with the very firm mattress. You run into this kind of hard foam here. But if you like a soft mattress take note. That would be my only alert. Again, not a problem for me.
As for the "noise" others have noted, the music they play is very tasty and doesn't go on too long. I was one floor below and had no trouble sleeping. Elsewhere on the continent I have had to use earplugs. Not here. I did get a "garden" facing room rather than a street-facing one. That eliminated traffic noise. (N.B. there is no garden to look at, so here "garden" just means "facing away from the street." It is downtown, after all. However, if you'd like a little nature, there is a beautiful park a block a way.
Finally, I just think the vibe is very cool. Seulement en Afrique ! "
"There are certainly positives here. The room was very clean, though small, and there is even a small workout room with three aerobic machines. The WiFi may be the best you can get in Gitega, IDK. It was promoted by other reviewers but was not consistent for me.
I wanted to give a review a little higher than "okay" but a little less than "good" but you have to choose one or the other.
Drawbacks are the staff. Not very welcoming and, for the most part, do not communicate well. I have stayed in many African hotels (8 countries over 15 years) and so say this understanding the cultural differences. Given that this property is endorsed by the UN and expects global traffic, though, I was surprised at the lack of effort to make one feel welcome and to seek to accommodate needs. It's definitely a "here's how it comes" kind of place.
And the "here's how it comes" definitely applies to the breakfast buffet. Many recycled items. So hard to know what is fresh one's first day. I chose not to take dinner there.
Two other things to note: bring your own mosquito net. Or spray yourself well before bedtime. I didn't think mine would be required here, but on my third day killed two that evening and so took precautions. Also, be prepared to put in the ear plugs if loud music keeps you from sleeping. It was only a problem one night, and the band was actually pretty good, still, I needed to sleep.
They do give you a new bottle of water every day, and only forgot once. "
"Clean room, spacious enough and well located. Staff were outstanding . Very friendly and helpful staff. The only thing that is a spoiler is also an advantage. HOTEL is in the heart of Bujumbura where everything you need is at walking distance. However, this comes with bars and churches(noise). This could not stop you book these rooms as the pros outweigh the cons by a tonne . I strongly recommend Hotel Hibiscus for their service . Thank you again for all the staff that contribute in my enjoyable holiday."
"Please, this property is a scam and you have to refund me. My experience with them is very horrible and a nightmare. I got to airport and most of the taxi drivers don't know the place except one man. After we got to the area, two you men who don't look like security men came out with a surprised they are not aware I booked a room there. The young men called their master and he denied I booked an apartment there. The boys have no smart phone so my taxi driver took a picture of my documents to confirm I booked his apartment online and sent to this property owner. This too he denied. The boys then said I can pay another 40 dollars for my 2days stay but I left because the environment is not safe for my security.
I moved away from that apartment to get a better one safer, low cost, very beatiful and closer to the US Embassy. I even took pictures of the the apartment I stayed in.
