"Older hotel and it shows. It’s a small town though and it’s what I expected. The glorious view from our room was worth it though."

"A beautiful property. You can see they've really maintained the elegance of the house. There were just a few small things like the ceiling was a bit cracked, the faucet cap was missing, and the toilet needed to be pumped in order to flush. But the staff were great and the food was very good so all in all, I would recommend it as a place to stay."

"The staff make the stay very pleasant with all from housekeeping to check-in and food and beverage helpful accommodating anc with willing smiles. Food offering was good and bar well stocked with choices. Check in process easy and undertaken smoothly"

"Cheap , clean , good location. Bit noisy but cracking for the money. Rooms a bit tired but again cracking for the money."

"Beautiful place and setting. I wish we could have stayed here longer!"

"Clean room. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again"

"The hotel is absolutely gorgeous. Pictures do not do it justice. The staff was excellent and very attentive to our needs and requests. Will definitely be back."

"This is an excellent example of a Malmaison, it’s such a lovely hotel. The bar and restaurant are super. Food is always spot on and the cocktails are always wonderfully made. We’ve stayed many times and always love the rooms, which are nicely appointed and a generous size. This time it was a little tired, sockets broken, curtains marked, windows broken, nothing major but just needs a bit more attention to detail. Bathroom was clean enough, but there was makeup on the tiles above the sink and...

"We enjoyed all the comfort and atmosphere of an old inn, but with every modern convenience. The food was superb in the restaurant, and the full breakfast was as well. The common room was a cozy area with a fire, comfortable seating, and games!"

"A nice hotel that just needs a spruce up. Basic room that had ‘old lady perfume smell’ but clean. Friendly staff. Limited bar. Small but adequate breakfast buffet. Looks more like a retirement home than a hotel."

"It was conveniently located, with lovely views of the harbour. Our room was small, basic and unconventionally designed. A cheerful, comfy spot to anchor ourselves during our visit."

"I stayed in a room rather than one of the lodges, and the room was lovely, very comfortable, and spotlessly clean. It's worth noting its on the very edge of the town, around a 15-minute walk from the centre of Ballater. My only disappointment was that the rooms are not serviced daily unless you are staying for a longer period, which wasn't explained at check-in. It was a little frustrating to return after a long day out to find the room hadn't been serviced, as that's one of the things I most...

"It was an okay hotel. Would not consider this to be a 4* when compared to other good four star hotels. The mattress was cheap and sunk, causing the whole bed to shake upon rotation and a bad back. No room service, no mini fridge in room and the Aircon would not go below a certain°, creating a hot room."
