"Really enjoyed our stay - it was a last minute getaway! Things I loved: Front desk staff was very nice. Historic lore. Elevator was ample sized. Bookshelves with books everywhere - halls, room - to borrow during stay. Room was nice size. Air conditioning was amazing. Beautiful new pedestal sink, well lit mirror and new high toilet. Nice towels, not scratchy and for the first time ever - actual toilet paper, not 1 ply institution tissue paper! Things I did not love: Front desk person make us wait til exactly 3pm to check in, no information on the history of the hotel or ghost info available, nothing in the gift shop was related to the hotel - just mass produced "mexican" art and mirrors. The room, I think did not have the benefit of the full remodel: Carpet was worn and lumpy and tub/shower was separating from enclosure showing rust and mold. The mattresses were older, lumpy. Each bed offered 3 each square pillows (like throw pillow size) cute but not effective for sleeping. The wrapper of the boxsprings or platforms were dirty and stained. Baseboards were dirty. Paint in various places on walls was chipped. Dust behind furnishings and behind tv on the mountings and even the walls. Yes, handprints on walls lead us to investigate and they were in dust! Poor lighting in room for reading those books. And just for us - not a hint of a ghost in sight."
"When we checked in we were told to ask for housekeeping the next morning to have our room cleaned. We did as we were told however our room was never cleaned and when we asked the front desk they didn’t seem to care that we were upset. We asked for clean towels and at least they gave us that. We won’t stay here again."
"This place needs work. They are currently under construction. However, I stayed in a room that appeared to be semi-updated. The TV did not work. The manager came and could not get it to work; however, I was able to transfer to another room with a working TV. The beds are very hard and uncomfortable. The room floor hasn't been cleaned, and there's visible debris. The refrigerator still had remnants of whatever the prior guest had left behind, and it was dirty! The light switches, and the sink was dirty, with brown print on the light switch for the bathroom, yuck! Whoever is doing the updates has no attention to detail, uneven light switches and plugs, for example. I don't have access to the ice machine. The manager brought me ice when I requested it, but I couldn't get ice before I left on a 90+ degree day, which was unacceptable. Huge trip hazard: an inch-and-a-half rise with edging leading into the bathroom. As a person with Parkinson's, I have to be very careful, and having a tripping hazard going to the bathroom is totally unacceptable. Then the cheap, easily chipped laminate floor was not installed with any backing, and it flexes when you step on it, creating a trip hazard throughout the room. With a car on cement blocks in the parking lot. I would expect more from a Choice Hotel. The shower looks recently updated; however, the shower floor was not cleaned, and the conditioner bottle was empty. Wait till the construction is done before possibly staying there."
"Amelia checked us in and was wonderful. The property looks to be under redo but not complete. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. A little noisy. Really like Amelia."
