Driving towards the accommodation was a unique experience that only Coober Pedy can offer - outstanding - loved every moment. Mike was a wonderful host - welcoming, warm and friendly. Thank you - we would love to come back one day :)
A unique place to stay in Mike's underground B and B. The place was spacious and comfortable and unlike some guests we were given plentiful breakfast supplies. We would recommend others to stay.
Very new, simple, above ground accommodation just outside town. Nice sunset views and interesting landscape surrounding the property. Had a good stay and would revisit!
Incredible experience sleeping in the dug out. View from location is beautiful looking over the desert. Rooms and kitchen were clean given how remote this area is. Mobile reception is none and wifi is also intermittent.
Property is good if someone wants to have that unique experience of sleeping in dugout.
Quiet, clean property just out of town. Good facilities. A swing around tv in the middle of the unit would be more easily viewed.
Loved the location, good stargazing
I really enjoyed my stay at Venus Hill. The location overlooked a beautiful plane, and the cabin had everything I needed for a relaxing night and efficient morning. I am heading back to Adelaide in a few months and will likely stay again.

This motel is interesting, whilst I stayed in an above ground room, the owners are building underground rooms. My accommodation was excellent, brand new, comfortable and clean.
The manager was attentive and efficient.
What I liked most was the surroundings: out of the way, vast horizon and beautiful sunset.
One the most friendly and welcoming places I have ever visited!
Mike went out of his way to make me feel welcome - we had some car trouble (emu 😂) and he went over and above to help us.
He even organised some amazing activities for my wife and I while we had no transport.
You won’t find a better place to stay in Coober Pedy - don’t miss out!
Great to experiencce underground living.
Loved the few minutes out of town vastness.
Very comfortable. Good value.
Need your own toiletries except soap.
Easy checkin, small group of 3.
We received a quick and unintrusive service from the owner’s wife. The place felt new and clean. Great sunset and sunrise views, and safety. It felt for me like at grandma’s place in some ways. We happen to stay in the same room we stayed couple of years ago, and my wife commented she would stay there again.
The under ground apartment was great in so many ways. Getting to experience the Coober Pedy style of living even for a short time offered an insight into the the place. The design of the space was well thought out and interesting at every turn. And our host Raymond took good care of us, told us a few stories and then left us to enjoy the space. Highly recommended for comfort and interest!!
Tall man Raymond was very accommodating , informative and kind.
We stayed in a seemingly brand new and large room that had a queen size bed and a double bed. Mattresses were very nice and new. Spotless room. Peaceful place. Next time we will try a dugout. It’s also clean and new . We spoke with the folks who were staying there and they loved it. Hope to come back and visit soon. It is very close to town and is quiet location with fantastic views of the sunrise.
The property is in the mining fields so it is really authentic. There are long range views from the hilltop. It is owner built. We did both the container above ground and the dugout as an upgrade. The owners are into.opal mining themselves. Non commercial, very grassroots. It is the real deal but well done too. Thanks for a great experience, never forgotten. A night underground. Marg and Michael.
Coober Pedy's scorching summer heat was no match for the cool comfort of our underground dugout! At a steady 23 degrees, it was a welcome respite from the blistering temperatures outside. Despite a sudden flash flood that swept through the town, our elevated dugout remained completely unaffected.
While the main bed might have been a bit firm for some, we slept soundly each night, undisturbed by any discomfort. The property's lack of air conditioning was a non-issue, as the constant cool temperature and a gentle fan breeze kept us perfectly comfortable.
Raymond, the caretaker, was incredibly hospitable. He not only ensured a smooth check-in but also went the extra mile by taking us on a fascinating tour of his opal mine. His warm hospitality and local insights truly enhanced our stay.
We can't wait to return to this unique and peaceful retreat.
