  • The second oldest building remaining on The Ohio State University campus, Orton Hall was opened in 1893. It is named after Dr Edward Orton, Sr. who served as Ohio State's first president, OSU Professor of Geology from 1873 to 1899, and Ohio's State Geologist from 1882 until his death in 1899. Orton Hall is built of 40 different Ohio building stones. In the outside walls, these stones are laid in stratigraphic order according to their relative positions in Ohio's bedrock. The only non-indigenous to Ohio stone used is Indiana Limestone to build the front steps. It was chosen because of its high concentration of embedded fossils. The bell tower was dedicated in 1915 and contains 25,000 pounds of bells that can be heard regularly tolling across campus. Encircling the top of the tower are 24 columns with gargoyle-like figures which are restorations of fossil animals.

Hotel was very clean and nice. The breakfast was very good and there was a wide variety of stuff to choose from. Only thing bad was the air conditioner didn't turn on but we were able to get a fan from the lobby to cool the room down. Would stay here again.

We appreciated the friendly, helpful staff. The bed was comfortable, and the room was clean. We left the hotel early in the morning due to an early flight, but the staff person setting up for breakfast said we could have a piece of fruit and/or a bagel with cream cheese even though it wasn’t “breakfast time” yet. We would recommend the hotel.

We checked in a bit later, but walked to Panera right next door for a light dinner. The suite was quiet, comfortable, clean and very nice. Our new favorite hotel out of many available in the area and reasonably priced! We will be back!

This was our first stay at Drury Hotels and it definitely won’t be our last! Super clean property and the hotel had lots of little extras for visitors including a soda bar and popcorn machine. Staff was super kind despite the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, making our visit very enjoyable.

The hotel staff was friendly, the place was clean the room was very nice, and the breakfast was tasty. Bonus for always having coffee, tea, and water in the lobby. They went the extra step with everything. Great stay!
