  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. The uniqueness of the property was the use of bike frames/ wheels with the furniture, it was a lovely touch. The WiFi was excellent. The breakfast was great.

This hotel was excellent. 10min drive into the centre of Brugge - 30 min walk (which we did) or 15 mins on a bicycle. Bicycle hire available from the hotel reception. Taxi’s to the centre are all organised via hotel reception and collect you from right outside the door. Rooms are very clean, bicycle themed and well designed. The resturant was really good, staff very friendly and attentive, our meals were exceptional and good value for money. We really liked this hotel and hope you will too!!!!!

Clean, bright, smelled fresh, windows could open, neat bicycle theme, great shower and bed, nice big desk, in-room coffee, downstairs was wonderful food, bar and gym with sauna on site, crowded free parking lot, next to park for walking, front desk staff was sufficient and courteous, free wifi worked fine, dining and lobby decorated for yuletide season. I will return and bring cycling friends!

Love the decor, really comfy bed after a day of walking / drinking around Bruge. Bus stop right outside hotel for those who don’t want the 30 min walk into the centre.

Pleasant stay - would recommend

Very enjoyable stay in Bruges - hotel about a 20 min walk into the centre. Parking easy and plentiful. Hotel staff pleasant and helpful. Breakfast adequate. Rooms comfortable but would have appreciated a kettle in the room to make tea and also a mirror (only one was in the bathroom)

Lovely hotel

Lovely hotel, really comfy beds and a wonderful breakfast! Only issue is the walls are quite thin and we could hear a lot of noise in the hallway and from the room next door (even a phone vibrating everytime the occupants got a message) Hotel was within walking distance of the city centre (around 40 minutes) but there are plenty of taxis. You can even rent a bicycle from the hotel.

Excellent staff, service and location

Great staff, fantastic service. We informed them about travelling with a baby, and they promptly set a baby cot in the room ready for us at check in. Brilliant location, conveniently located at a quiet locality just north of Bruges and next to a supermarket - 13 mins drive from Biekorf car park. Highly recommend!

Very clean room, staff were polite, friendly and helpful. Breakfast was quite good, but the full english selection was missing sausages, beans and tomatoes. As mentioned before, the glass-walled toilet and shower room was just unpleasant snd rather creepy.

I really like this concept of being on the outskirts of town but with bike rentals! It worked out perfectly for me and the bike I rented was 15 euro for a full day and it was nicely equipped. Breakfast was good and the room was comfortable, would stay here again!
