Blackpool Town Center Travel Guide

Blackpool

A covered shopping mall with a glass ceiling, palm trees, and ice cream vendors.
A beach with a large illuminated Ferris wheel at sunset.
A large, empty auditorium with rows of wooden chairs and a stage with a large screen.
A large red tower, a plaza with people, and buildings with shops.
A bustling urban square with historic buildings, including a theater with a green dome and a red-brick facade.

Intriguing museums and Victorian architecture overlooking the beaches and piers provide insights into the history of this preeminent holiday resort.

Visit Blackpool Town Centre, the heart of the region’s family entertainment, packed with piers, amusement parks and shopping centres. Its scenic beaches and green parks make it an absolute joy, drawing crowds in summer. Get a sense of the history and nostalgia of this coastal Victorian hub.

On a sunny day, buy ice cream for your kids and head to Central Beach. Find your own spot on the sandy stretch and lay down a blanket to sunbathe as you listen to the soothing waves. Stroll along the promenade of the so-called Golden Mile, which is frequented by sand sculptors and other artists and performers.

Much of the fun in the heart of the city is based around the Blackpool Central Pier. Relax with drinks in the pier’s Pirate’s Bay Family Bar and try the games and rides of Peter Sedgwick’s Family Entertainment Centre. Climb aboard the Central Pier Big Wheel for excellent views from high in the air.

Among the highlights of the city skyline is Blackpool Tower. Reach the top for spectacular vistas, before descending to the events, dances and nostalgic afternoon tea sessions of the majestic Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

For rainy days, visit the elegant Winter Gardens Blackpool entertainment complex. Watch a performance at its Opera House Theatre and see a gig at the Empress Ballroom, where the Rolling Stones, Oasis and Ed Sheeran have performed. Bring the little ones to SEA LIFE Blackpool and Madame Tussauds Blackpool.

The district occupies the heart of Blackpool, in the northwestern part of England. Drive north from Liverpool for 55 miles (88 kilometres) to get here in about 75 minutes. Continue north for some of the country’s most scenic terrain, including the Forest of Bowland, Lake District National Park and Yorkshire Dales National Park.

Adorned with entertainment venues, Blackpool Town Centre provides opportunities for an ideal family trip.
