The hotel offered very comfortable accommodation. Room was very clean and quiet and we enjoyed our hot bath after a long walk earlier in the day. Breakfast was excellent. We would certainly come again.

Located in the centre of town - a short walk from Barnard Castle itself, the magnificent Bowes Museum, local shops and bus services. Although the pub and restaurant were packed, the staff provided excellent, friendly and efficient service. Great menus for dinner and breakfast and the food itself was superb in every respect. Parking can be an issue - the hotel's own parking has very limited spaces and is some distance from the hotel itself although porterage was offered for baggage. Our room (4) was very comfortable, quiet, clean and peaceful - perhaps stronger bedside lighting for reading would have been useful. We very much enjoyed our stay and the hotel would be our first choice for our next trip to this beautiful area of Durham and Yorkshire.

Enjoyable stay with friendly staff
Staff were friendly and helpful. The room was lovely and clean. Our evening meal was excellent, however, with hindsight we would have asked for a table in the restaurant area rather than the bar which was extremely busy and noisy

Highly recommended, great stay
Very friendly staff. Excellent service, one of the best full English breakfasts I have ever had. Great central position in Barnard Castle. Spotlessly clean. Overrall highly recommended. We stayed in the 1 bed apartment which was superb, just over the road from the pub.

Great rooms, great pub
Amazing location right in the centre of town, the staff were super helpful and accommodating with regards to information on the parade etc. Rooms are clean and modern, no issues whatsoever. Overall it was a great stay and I would 100% stay again on our next visit 😊

Luxury stay
I stayed off site in the stables, it was very clean with plenty tea and coffee and biccies. Very comfy bed. Breakfast was great with attentive staff.

Food was very good. Beer a good price. Seemed popular with locals. Bed comfy. Room a good size. In the annex so quiet at this time of year. Only criticism was there was only one tube of shower gel, one teaspoon, on the second day only one large cardboard cup and the mugs could do with being bigger!

Friends get together
Everything was top class. The rooms are bright, spacious, modern and comfortable. Food excellent, both evening meal and breakfast. All the staff are helpful, hard working and efficient. Very welcoming atmosphere in the bar.
