I had a wonderful stay at the Port Albert Inn - the staff were warm and welcoming, the rooms were clean and cozy with lots of charm, and the location was beautiful, just a short walk to the water; breakfast was delicious, and I’d happily come back again!
"Port Albert is a charming and idyllic destination that offers a serene and peaceful atmosphere. The town is immaculately kept, ensuring a safe and clean environment for visitors. Our stay was truly comfortable and unforgettable, with the historic and antique ambiance adding to its allure. This is an ideal getaway for couples seeking a romantic escape. Special thanks to Angus for his warm hospitality and assistance. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and look forward to returning!"
The property is a 1842 inn. The welcoming lobby with a fireplace and bar (no service) set up is a great place to sit so you are not locked in the room, especially in the cold weather. We had the inn to ourselves as it was off season. (Two colleagues attending a conference in a closeby town)
I am sure it is lovely in the summer with several places to sit and enjoy the outside as well as a short walk to the beautiful shore of Lake Huron!
The rooms are original to the property, therefore, quaint and for someone who loves history, enjoyable. My travelling partner prefers updated and sleek environments, so this would not be for someone with those tastes. However, it was spotlessly clean with fresh and updated linens. The beds were a little hard for our taste, but there is no way to satisfy everyone.
We had the two bedroom suite which was private and nicely set up with a gas fireplace and tv as well as a private bathroom. I did not see the rooms on the other side of the property so I cannot comment on them.
Angus was welcoming and accommodating with every request. He had a continental breakfast ready every morning and we had access to the kitchen facilities to store our food.
Thank you, Angus for your hospitality and I wish you every success in the future!
The room was nice and clean. The strange thing was there was no staff to meet us when we arrived. Instead, there was a sign to call a phone number and the owners in the next house came over to show us to our rooms then left us. We were the only people in the building until we called again for breakfast the next morning when he came over again to make it. There is no pub as the pictures would suggest. This is a 6 room b&b with owners next door situation not a hotel/motel.
We experienced a welcoming atmosphere, kind and quaint.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
What a cozy respite for a weary traveler! Angus welcomed me and showed me my room and the amenities. The great room with the wood stove and coffee/tear bar was a fantastic place to relax. The room was clean with everything I needed. The location is off the highway and very quiet but still close to the port.
It was fantastic from first walk in greeted warmly by owner & daughter so accommodating suggested pub across street so we didn’t have to drive again after long drive here.
It was very quaint. Beautiful area. Bed was quite hard. Breakfast was Continental and adequate. No air conditioning - which I believe was stated in the website for the Inn but not on Expedia. It was very hot. There has been an heat wave over the last few days! Owner did his best with fans. The Inn was clean
While the accommodations were very basic (i.e. no AC in the room, only fans), the breakfast was great. Our host, Angus, was a nice guy and we enjoyed talking to him and the one other set of guests staying there that night. The place was a little further out of Goderich than we thought it was.
Loved the history and rustic atmosphere. Loved the little in-suite bathroom but it needs towel racks and a little table or countertop for toiletries. Loved that breakfast was served on the patio by the pond/fountain and breakfast was awesome!
