I’m tagging along with him to Julius Creek, a semi-obscure destination that he wants to return to – and who am I to argue? It’s mildly famous among the bushwalking fraternity because it has caves so I’m expecting to be in a dark place sometime in the ensuing hours. We’re somewhat tardy in heading out and I’m not sure exactly what we’ll be doing other than the caves, I’m just happy to have a guide. Our first stop is Edith Creek general store/café/service station – you name it they’ll have a go. In fact, talking to one of the owners later, he’s managed to start a profitable business utilizing the wood that the forestry company doesn’t want, finding many uses for the initially rejected timber. Gerry however, is taking me to what the tourist image of the fabled Tarkine is, pristine Gondwana forest swathed in lichen and moss. There’s a new loop road not far from Edith Creek. Actually, it’s not new, but the sealing of it and promotion as a tourist destination is. Where Gerry’s taking me will not be on any serious promoter’s list in the foreseeable future though; I figure that out as we turn off one road onto another, then another and it’s a dirt road in the midst of becoming overgrown by forest with grasses and reedy-type plants as high as the bonnet running down the middle. For some unknown reason I thought we were headed to a less obscure destination but here, the only way you know you’ve arrived is if you happen to spot the one lone piece of pink ribbon affixed to small branch. Had Gerry not mentioned it I’d have driven right by but there’s also a slightly wide part of the road, so called, where, after several backwards and forwards motions, you can actually turn around, which is just as well because I wouldn’t fancy reversing up our route. This walk is as close to virgin as you can get; the track, such as it is, can only be followed if you keep your eyes out for the ribbons because there’s little wear and tear in some places, especially where a log has fallen down and alternate routes have been sought. This is wilderness in it truest form and we make our way down and across a small watercourse, so obscure you can walk across it and not get the top of your shoes wet. Fungi and moss love it down here beneath the tertiary growth of this forest plus tree ferns and there’s also some large leaved plant with fruit that look just like blueberries scattered liberally across the forest floor. Gerry reliably informs me that they’re Tasmanian native pepper and I later look it up and see that it has attracted interest in medical research because it retards growth of Staph Aureus and other nasties. Fabulous views from comfortable villa

Fabulous view of the river and beach from this very comfortable villa. Very clean and well equipped kitchen. The washing machine in the bathroom was a bonus. It was lovely watching the sunset into the ocean through the windows and from the balcony.

Was pleasantly surprised by this accommodation considering where it is on the map!..the outside belies what is actually a well appointed villa. Was questioning the stairs as access for my somewhat immobile man but these did not prove a problem. It overlooks the lovely view of the inner harbour. Enjoyed walks both sides of harbour entrance and as a consequence, appreciate the ruggedness of this coastline. Necessary food supplies a must. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Communication was excellent.

It was self check in but very organised through texts and emails. Unit was very spacious and clean. It had views of river and ocean. It had all you would need for a longer stay. All in all very comfortable. The only thing was there was no internet.

Great spot

Awesome spot! Very clean, well laid out and everything you need supplied. We have stayed in 6 location over the last fortnight and this place had the best quality linen out of them all. We would have given a 10 out of 10, except for the washing machine. I try and book places with washing facilities so we don't need to pack as much. The washing machine was a twin tub, and not plumbed in, a bucket was supplied to fill it! We did our smalls by hand and left the rest our washing until the next stop. Would highly recommend otherwise.

Nice and clean. Nice view. Took ages to work out that you had to put the timer on, on the oven to make it work, and then still had problems. Microwave didn't work unless you switched it off at the power point first. No instructions to tell you to do these things.Wasted nearly an hour trying to figure it out.

Great place and location

Wonderful view over the mouth of the Arthur River. The unit was very well presented and very clean with all we needed for our stay. The add bonus was to be able to do the Arthur River Cruse. Wonderful.

Great location, over road from river & half block from the beach. Very comfortable bed. Kitchen very basic, & only bar stools at kitchen bench, no table & chairs. We were very glad to have the comfort, coming out of the Tarkine.

Very quiet place

Very quiet place, very dark and no one near by. Need to improve the water in the bath room and the light in the kitchen.

The view was stunning but the property faces west and we couldn’t take full advantage of the view because it was too hot. We drew the curtains to block out the sun.

Property was very clean well stocked with all the essentials. Stairs were a bit daunting with our suitcases but we managed ok.

The unit had everything we needed for our stay, including a lovely view. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen well equipped.
