Located in a former Monastery , it is in a very peaceful setting. We only stayed one night. It would be a place to just relax. Plenty of trails to walk on.

This was is a large cloister, to a large degree converted to a hotel and conference centre, while maintaining some space and certainly the aura of its original purpose. There are still a few nuns resident in a private section of the property, and we had the opportunity to chat with one of them to learn much about the history of the place. The hotel conversion was very well done, without destroying the historical significance of the property. The rooms were comfortable, but not very spacious. There are large grounds for walks, and even a charming little animal farm that kids would enjoy. The onsite chapel is well worth a visit. The onsite restaurant is a bit formal in its presentation, but nonetheless friendly and welcoming. It's menu focuses on local produce and cuisine.

Excellent place
My wife and I stayed there for 3 nights as a base for driving around the region. The place is fantastic, very nice breakfast. As the hotel is located in a very small village, we ended up having dinner there a couple of times and the food was well prepared. The services were good as well , my only negative remark is that the room could have a bigger bed and mini-bar.

One of the best hotels!
Fantastic location - beautiful property. The breakfast is the best buffet I have ever had and would visit only for that! Rooms are clean, very comfortable and well designed leaving some original features, but providing modern comfort. Highly recommended!

Great relaxing hotel
The area is great for relaxing or for a nice bike ride in the countryside. We tried to explore the church and monastery but I wish that there was some type of tour or brochure we could see to explain its historical significance. The inside of the church looks beautiful and would have been a worthwhile experience. As it stands, it's just a building attached to a hotel.

A Gem!
We loved Kloster Holzen. The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were spotless, the wifi was fast, and the church on premises was absolutely breathtaking. The dinner and breakfast were excellent and reasonably priced. The rooms were a surprisingly modern juxtaposition to the historic grounds and buildings, but it really worked! This would be great for a wedding (which they had one on site while we were there) or a relaxing getaway. Only drawback was some echoing hallways, but very minor point with no issues of rowdy, late night guests.

Disappointing that the advertised petting zoo appeared to never be open. The bathrooms were incredibly odd and were without soap/shampoo which seemed odd based on the caliber of this hotel. Very isolated and nothing really to do around

Beautiful place!
A beautiful property in a beautiful place. Dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Room was fine, but there were a couple details overlooked (used tissue paper and half consumed bottle of water in room as we arrived...). The pillows were simply too thin for what North Americans are used to

Wonderful mixture of traditional and modern
The Kloster is a modern hotel attached to an abbey. The hotel has been lovingly modernized and is a skilful blend of original features with modern interior design. Our room was comfortable. The bathroom was huge and the shower was the best!

Unique and very nice hotel in the country.
This hotel is connected to a beautiful Church (you must see it if you stay there). The hotel itself is very nicely done, with good size rooms and very nice and large bathrooms. Beware that not all rooms have Wifi (some have wired internet). Breakfast was good. The hotel is not in a major city but since we had a car, it didn't matter to us. We highly recommend this hotel for a relaxing stay. You should also take the time to walk around the grounds.

Fantastic hotel if you like the countryside
The hotel is very nice and original, but expensive. It is new and clean but we had some small problem. 1) Internet didn't work. 2) the waiter of the restaurant didn't want to give us something to drink even if the kitchen was closing 15 minutes after (and the restaurant, that was still full, close 1 hour after). 3) we paid 10 euros for the bed of the baby. 4) Our room was very nice but in it was in a separate building and in case of rain it could be a problem to go to the breakfast room in the main building. All the rest was perfect, especially if you like the countryside and the silence. Last thing: the breakfast was very rich and of good quality.

Great countryside hotel
Kloster Holzen is a comfortable countryside hotel. The restaurant has many outstanding items. The compound is surrounded by accessible greens and forests. The baroque church in the compound is simply majestic and imparts a serene atmosphere.

Wonderful, wonderful experience
We made a last minute reservation, knowing nothing abouth the hotel or it's location in advance. Everything about the hotel was an absolute delight . A very old monastery, it only became a hotel in 2011. We were given an absolutely enormous corner bedroom with windows that overlooked the extensive gardens on both sides. The bathroom was larger than many other hotel bedrooms too. The adjacent restaurant building was a beautiful cloistered room full of character and both the food and service was excellent. Adjacent to the main building is the original chapel, which also is magnificent. Although three star the hotel is worthy of at least four stars and is incredible value for money. We fully intend to return, and for more that just one night, using the hotel as a base from which to tour the local area. In conclusion, I really cannot recommend this wonderful hotel too highly and would urge any travellers in the area motto overlook it - you will not be disappointed !

Zeer mooi gerenoveerd klooster. De kamers zijn zeer netjes en compact. Personeel was erg vriendelijk en het ontbijt echt uitgebreid. Wel met een specifieke focus op zakelijk verblijf. Maar wij op doorreis hebben het er ook als erg goed ervaren.

Genussvoll übernachten und speisen im Kloster
Schon seit meiner Kindheit war ich fasziniert von den beiden Kirchtürmen hoch über der Ebene, wenn ich mit Bahn oder Auto von Augsburg nach Donauwörth unterwegs war. Jetzt bot sich die Gelegenheit näher- und einzutreten. Ein tolles Haus, sehr gut restauriert, mit langen Gängen, mit einem sehr schönen Innenhof, einer mit einzelnen kleinen Kunstwerken überbordenden Barockkirche, mit einem Kräutergarten - so, wie man sich eben ein Kloster vorstellt. Das ist Kloster Holzen. Die Mönchszellen von einst gibt es nicht mehr. Es sind angenehme Zimmer, nicht riesig groß, aber ausreichend. Der Klostergasthof bietet eine sehr gute Küche, spezielle Wünsche werden freundlich entgegengenommen und erfüllt. Ein besonderes Erlebnis war das Osterfrühstück: Vielfältig, Produkte und Angebote von hoher Qualität; und was besonders gefällt - mit regionalem Bezug. Erstklassig! Es gibt nur einen Nachteil: Es ist 500 km von zu Hause entfernt.

Nice and clean place. Rather cosy, an old "Kloster" which has been very nicely refurbished. A bit low internet strength in the dining hall (the walls are thick)...and to call I had to walk out

This is a lovely hotel with old world charm. The church, which is integrated into the old building, is one of the most beautiful I have seen on the inside. The breakfast area is delightful and the quality of food outstanding - fresh made bread, wonderful meats and cheeses and fresh coffee and tea.

Excelente, cómodo y bonito hotel.
Hotel ubicado en un monasterio. Limpio, agradable y con una arquitectura excelente. Las habitaciones son amplias y cómodas para trabajar. El entorno está muy bien, y permite dar paseos por zonas de bosques y ríos. Tiene un restaurante muy bonito. El desayuno es variado y abundante. El wifi funcionaba bien. Recomendable para alojarse cerca de Donauwörth si tienes coche.

Landschaftlich schön gelegenes Hotel
Außergewöhnliches Hotel in sehr schöner Lage . Zimmer modern eingerichtet, aber Einzelzimmer mit 1 m Betten verbreiten halt leider den Charme einer Jugendherberge. Ein entsprechendes französisches Bett wäre wünschenswert auch als Einzelzimmer.
