Setup of hotel is good! Nice rooms, good atmosphere and nice breakfast. Walking distance from citycenter. The bed’s, mattress, were bad. Didnt have a good night of sleep due to the status of the mattress.

My cup of tea

We had a very good nights sleep in excellent quality beds and bedwear! We appreciated that radiators worked very quick to warm up the room in the morning and the possibility to have a cup of tea in the room. The windows are thick so we heard no noice whatsoever and talking about the back side of the hotel; the parking was free during the weekend. What we missed was schampoo in the shower, we are used to have toiletry included in hotels.
The hall area - you can tell it’s been a prison.
Beds are high and the are curtains to avoid being seen from outside.
You get two “cells”; one for the bed and the other for shower and a sitting area.

The hotel use to be a prison. Some of the characteristics of the building are still present like the steel doors, the iron walkway to access the rooms, which makes the hotel all the more interesting. They have turned two cells into one room so the space is great with an updated bathroom, large shower stall, a sitting room and a coffee machine. Hotel is very clean.

Reception staff were helpful. This is a converted prison and so quirkily interesting. The bed was fine and the room was spacious. However I couldn’t find any light switches other than at the door. Only way to turn off the lights was to remove the card key from its slot. Sink only had cold water so impossible to shave.

Staff not very helpful, I asked for extra pillows and a duvet at reception, never arrived to my room. The window next to the bed has not properly sealed air comes in to the room. I could felt the air coming directly to my face while sleeping even though I had the blind down. Also I had go and request cleaning my room as it was not cleaned, I has the room cleaning tag hanging at the handle door.

The staff and the restaurant are great. The ambience is always good and the quirkiness of the former prison is fun to stay in. On the negative side, the room has not a single hook or hanger for a towel, the towels are too small and the toilet paper seems like genuine prison standard

Free parking is hard to get in Alkmaar, but from 17:00-9:00 it is free at the public parking next to the hotel (before passing the barrier) when you have the” pay by phone “ app you can easily pay if you need a bit longer. Enter through the Westerweg.

I am disappointed. The beds are sagging, even the topper doesn't help, I woke up every morning with back pain. The room is dirty, dusty, dirty shower, coffee machine with mold, even the coffee cups were not properly washed. Windowblind broken, cannot be closed completely. Noisy, doors in the hallway slamming shut, conversations in the hallway hearable even in bed. Towel worn down with hole in the middle.
