The Royal Lion Hotel
8/10 Good
"Very helpful staff reception and in dining areas. Good breakfast and service. Fabulous pool and area which is bookable and therefore for individual use.
Room was tired and needed updating. Bunk beds for children definitely need maintenance. Cleanliness in bathroom and other areas could be better. That said bed linen was very good. In all though, great location and can’t praise staff enough for their friendliness. "

"Fabulous place. I visit Exeter on a regular basis, and this is now my 'go-to hotel'. Moder, very comfortable, friendly and professional staff. Love this place."

Woodbury Park Hotel and Golf Club

"We stayed in chalet #2 Bramble. There was a bit of a wait at reception at check in. We were told we were in lodge #2. We were given three keys which was helpful. When we got to the lodge the number was not as clear as the name so it would have been helpful to have been told the name at checkin. When we opened the door we were presented with another 8, Yes 8 doors! The rooms themselves were basic but fine. 2 bathrooms one was a stand alone shower room the other had a shower over bath and was a Jack and Jill style with access from one room and the hallway. The two twin rooms were snug but fine for our needs. Upstairs there was a good sized lounge area and a kitchen diner. The kitchen had all the required equipment, and so many glasses you could host a cocktail party but only 2 tea spoons! Some of the cooking equipment wasn't clean e.g. knives in the knife block. Generally overall it was fine, there were just some bits that made it shabby e.g. green growth in the bathroom light, scrapes and scratches on the paintwork in most rooms.
We made use of the pool which we enjoyed. I used the gym which was well appointed but you need to know what you are doing as there was very little help of offer. We did use the club house for an evening meal, this really let the hotel down. We ordered a chicken stirfry but were later told they had no noodles, these were swapped for chips but then served with sweet potato fries. The chilli was served but without the accompanying nachos or soured crème."

Hotel Du Vin Exeter

"Our deluxe room felt more like a bunker in the basement. Really not what we expected for the price.
The bathroom in the room had no door, offering absolutely no privacy.
To top things off, my partner suffered food poisoning.
Avoid."

"Breakfast was included in price at £137.00 per night for double room & at that price you would except a good breakfast, totally disappointed!!! Cooked breakfast tasteless, slop !!! No fresh fruit at all apart from defrosted fruit berries with natural yogurt that tasted so cheap & bitter!!!! Didn’t attempt cooked breakfast but my partner did & left it due to tasting so bad !! We also had orange juice that was horrible due to being totally watered down !!!!
Room was clean & comfortable & staff seen lovely ."
