Hidden Valley Preserve was a nice surprise. Only been there a couple times but found it had a lot to offer-lots of critters (frogs, fish, snakes, turtles, birds), a suspension bridge over the brook, easy to more challenging trails. The best part was the old quartz mine, that was in use from 1800-1915. The trail becomes a sparkling white, a mix of fairytale and snow storm.

The staff were great I had a problem with my first room and had to change rooms. I wasn’t happy about the inconvenience but overall my stay was good. The parking was a pain to far in the cold.

This was a really nice surprise-it's more then a hiking trail, it's a historical 19th century iron mine site. Not far from the parking lot, is the location of where the mine used to be-pictured are the roasting ovens. There is also a large furnace and several signs to learn about the mine and what the town used to look like in 1874. The trail goes along the old Donkey Trail that was used to bring rock down from the quarry. There are two main trails-about 6 miles total (3.5 miles for the Mine Hill Preserve and 2 mile loop for the Carter Preserve). There are also several miles of tunnels that are no longer accessible and are gated off with Bat Cages to allow bats to get in and out of the caves.
