"Plus side: Location is great being opposite the castle and 1 minute from pubs and restaurants, beautiful exterior, dedicated parking at the rear which is great for a town centre, staff are pleasant. Minus side, hotel is rather shabby away from the foyer, a warren of stairs and corridors with no lift, tired decor, the suite we were in had no tv in bedroom only in the lounge area, a hole in the carpet, hot water didn't come through for several minutes so wasn't sure it was working, a hair in the soap dish, bedside light failed, headboard coming away from the wall. To be fair the price i got online for the suite of £65 was not unreasonable these days for the quality but any more would have been too rich and the photos online of the room did not translate to the reality. If you want a basic no frills rather run down Tonbridge town centre bedroom for a cheaper price then this is it."

"The room was a good size, the bed very comfortable the bathroom was good sized. The shower was over the bath with shower curtains, not great for older persons. There was a warning sign about the heated towel rail which was not heated.A request to the duty manager to turn it on, produced no result, nor a report back. The breakfasts were fine and we were happy to have dinner three nights. Car parking in front of the hotel was good. Staff, apart from the duty manager who did not perform or report, were friendly, most were young and seemed to be learning on the job."

"Overall we had a lovely stay. Only complaint was that we were cold in the evenings…it was less than 10° outside and the bar had air-conditioning on! We got really cold. The restaurant was also cold, so we only ate there the first night. The food was good, spoilt only by my poached eggs being cool the first day, and when I asked for them to be hot the second morning, they were only just warm! Otherwise a lovely breakfast. Shower very good, and plenty of hot water for baths to warm us up!"

"There were minor issues with the fixtures and fittings in the bathroom but everything was very clean and the shower was great. The mattress wasn't great but that's the only thing that let it down. The kitchen had very basic provision but it was sufficient for breakfast or a simple meal. Its a lovely location and super quiet. the evening bar was very hospitable and there is a really interesting little museum about the place (fascinating). We'll be back."

"We stayed for one night. We were attending a wedding close by and don’t live locally. We needed a bed for the night that was inexpensive, had a good check in time and included breakfast. This hotel ticked all those boxes.We checked-in at 2pm, which is rare for hotels now. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We received a personal and lovely welcome with a very swift check-in. The hotel decor is tired and rooms are dated but everything was clean. Beds are comfortable but the pillows were thin and not pleasant to sleep on. We had a TV, a decent shower, (not luxurious but it was hot and powerful), room to put our things and tea/coffee amenities. No aircon but we could open the window. Next morning we had a delicious English breakfast. I have stayed in a lot of 5 star hotels and not all of them have put an English breakfast in front of me as spot on as the Russell Hotel did. It was perfect and delicious! If I find myself in Tunbridge Wells in need of a bed for the night I would stay here without question. Lovely welcome, friendly & helpful staff with a great English breakfast in the morning. What more do you need?! The hotel was in a good location too and had some free parking. A thumbs up from my husband and me!"

"Lovely location and short 15 minute walk from the old town centre. Room was a good size and always love a walk in shower. There are parking spaces which can also be reserved for a small fee."

"The manager and staff at this hotel go above and beyond. My wife is disabled and travelling can be a challenge. The folks here just go out of the way to make things as easy as they can. The accessible room is large and the bathroom with its roll in shower and shower stool is well designed and functional. Top marks to all the staff."
