"This is an amazing oasis in a quiet area of the West Bank conveniently located near the Valley of Kings and Hapshepsut’s Temple. If you tire of the hustle and bustle and continuous hassle on the streets of Luxor, this is the right place for you. It may be pricey but there is no end to the luxury of this hotel. The pool and spa are wonderful. The gardens are beautiful. The setting is serene. The rooms echo the Ottoman and Omani influences seen in Dar es Salaam. And the food ( particularly the Ottoman Restaurant) is superb. Don’t miss the lamb shank there. It is amazing! The staff are kind and attentive. My travel companion had his birthday there, and without any prompting, the front desk noticed his birthdate on his passport and surprised him with a gourmet birthday cake at breakfast. That type of attention is unusual even at other 5 star hotels. We greatly enjoyed our stay in this wonderful hotel."
"One thing I would strongly suggest to the hotel management is addressing the issue with the horse drawn buggies and the taxi drivers waiting outside the property. Unfortunately, having a gate is not enough when, the moment you step outside, they immediately approach you, pressure you, and aggressively try to force you to use their services instead of apps like inDrive. The hotel should work with the tourist police to remove these individuals from the street leading to the hotel entrance. Tourists should be able to walk freely or order an inDrive without being harassed. At one point, I even witnessed two taxi drivers verbally confronting an inDrive driver for picking up a couple, as if they owned the entire area.
We stayed at the Steigenberger Resort Achti and walked several times to dine at the Steigenberger Nile Palace, which is only about 0.8 miles away. However, because of the intense heat, we often had to use inDrive, which cost around 50 Egyptian pounds each way. At one point, the taxi drivers pressured us so much that we almost got into one of their taxis. When I asked for the price, the driver quoted 500 Egyptian pounds for the same ride.
This is exactly why traditional taxi drivers are losing business and why services like inDrive are becoming more popular. Unless they start being honest and charging fair prices, they will continue to lose customers."
"expect OK receptionist but all staff are rude and racist and don’t want to work. The way my mother was treated, absolutely unacceptable. What I mean by they don’t want to work. I was turned away from two separate restaurants on property claiming you needed a reservation when there was clearly open tables. I walked out and found a manger. She follows up with, “we’re not busy enough right now to need reservations”. Very unfortunate and comfy feel that I ever had to deal with that."
"Hotel was nice but huge event in our last night outside our window kept us awake until after midnight. Hotel said they would credit our last night through Expedia but at this stage we have not seen any refund. We suspect they lied about the refund so we would not make a scene when leaving."
"No elevator elevators
If you stay on the fifth floor, you gotta walk five floors
Was supposed to stay on a room view of the Nile
Instead of I had view of construction
It’s a big lie"
"Howard Carter Hotel - what a find. Read all reviews and wasn't disappointed. From the very outset, we had a small issue with our room and was moved the next day into another room with no hesitation. We didn't like to complain as everyone at the hotel was so lovely and accommodating. Mr Said the owner who would always come around at meal times to make sure everything was to our liking. The Chefs worked so hard to deliver lovely dishes. The waiters were so accommodating and couldn't do enough for us. Ahmed and Ahmed and the lad and the gentleman at breakfast (apologies I couldn't remember their names). There was a great varied menu at dinner. Breakfast was plentiful and a lovely touch with the miniature pancakes everyday. My husband didn't care for pancakes so I ate his as well. Yummy !! The view from both our rooms was fantastic of the Nile and Pool. The Pool was clean and well kept. The hotel staff also cared about our wellbeing as whoever was picking us up would have to complete their details etc. for our security. We would definitely be back when the time is right. A BIG THANKYOU to Nehal on Reception. Thank you so much Howard Carter."
