Lane at Clannaborough The lane from Throwleigh to South Zeal, followed here by the Taw-Teign Link path, passes Clannaborough Cottage on the fringe of the open moor.
Shilstone Tor. Right at the edge of the moor, just a few yards from the road near Throwleigh, this small tor has apparently been quarried, perhaps to build the superb longhouse close by at Higher Shilstone.
Shilstone Tor This tor looks out east and from here Castle Drogo can be spotted on the horizon and is just left of centre in the photo scarcely visible in this photo, but it does indicate the extent of the view if related to the OS map. The Shilstone Tor has clearly been used by stone masons in days gone by as there are signs of their drilling and cleaving scattered around. Around 1905 a house called 'Midway' was built by local landowner Willoughby Lowe and is fine example of a more modern granite built house. The house is on the road leading down from Shilstone Tor into the village of Throwleigh (pronounced: Throwl-eigh)and is appropriately named as it is mid-way along this road to the village from Shilstone Tor. 'Midway' was once lived in briefly by Devon born artist Sydney Curnow Vosper 1909/10. The house has since been extensively extended.
