Quirky hotel for a weekend stay
We stayed in Room 6 which is at the top of the hotel. The room was good. There was a double bed,dressing table and side table. En suite bathroom with bath and shower. The room was quite, there's very little traffic in the area. They do provide breakfast which is left in the room in a fridge for you. Consists of bread for toasting, yogurt, cereal, juice and tea/coffee. This is a "do it yourself" meal but suited us. There is a fridge, kettle and toaster in a larder style cupboard in the room. The hotel is made up of 4 houses that have been made into one place. Therefore, the stairs go up in every direction and are narrow. The hotel could probably do with some redecorating but is clean and comfortable and a little bit quirky! If you arrive outside of the restaurant opening hours you need to phone (number is on the entrance) and they come and let you in. The owner is great. He chatted when we arrived and gave us a guide book on the town. He runs the restaurant and bar for the hotel. We didn't eat there but it was busy on the Saturday night.

Friendly hotel in perfect location !!
Very friendly and helpful staff and Proprietor, could not do enough to make our visit an enjoyable experience . Hotel is perfectly situated only a 5 min walk into town , in a peaceful area. Hotel is quirky and unique , and the people you meet make it a very personal experience . We also had our evening meal in the hotel restaurant which again was super b, and highly recommended .

Wonderful stay in this lovley area of stamford, close to the train station het completely sound proof from the outside world, as well as being in a nice area. The room had a heater, the bathroom was spacious. Breakfast amenities were delightful to discover and the bed was firm and comfortable. The man who greeted me had fantastic conversation and made me feel safe and welcome throughout the time i was there despite being a nervous traveller. Highly recommend, 10/10.

Friendly reception and service. Convenient location for town centre facilities. One of few hotels in Stamford with parking facilities. Good value for money.

Needs some major TLC
I feel bad leaving this review as the owner was so nice but the room i stayed in was cold, drafty, very out dated and grubby. The bed was so uncomfortable i woke up several times at night and i sleep like a log. Breakfast was in the room and was a nice touch. Like others have said the price reflects the quality so dont expect to much.

Very basic - could do with modernization!! Breakfast was taken in your room, toast and cereal prepared and served by yourself. Parking very limited. Shower facility totally inadequate with no hot water pressure - okay if a cold shower is what you wanted!!! Overall the building needs a great deal of attention - certainly will not recommend or use on the near future!!!

Needs a make over
So very disappointing, I should have listened to the reviews. The bed was uncomfortable, the room was cold. There was an inch gap under the door so the light from the hall kept my room bright all night, very noisy so I barely got a wink of sleep. The bathroom really needs a makeover. The shower was cold and only trickled water from it due to poor water pressure, so tried to run a bath but it took forever so had to give up.

You obviously had some agenda. As well as the central heating there is also an electric heater for a boost if you wanted it. I assume you are incapable of switching it on

Lovely friendly hotel. Will definitely book in for food next time. Good continental breakfast in the room. Rooms clean, well equipped and comfy bed. Host was very welcoming and enjoyed the evening in the well stocked bar. Would definitely recommend.

Only if you have to !
This is a poor standard Hotel - even at the very modest cost ! Expect NO frills and you will not be disappointed . The one saving grace was the Host - who was friendly !

You booked a twin room and 4 of you turned up to have a pre party before you went into town. We told you to be quiet and respectful of other guests as you were noisy and disrespectful of other guests.

Recommended accommodation and excellent food
Excellent service at the Candlestick hotel, food was great, all home cooked, highly recommended eating there, chef was brilliant.

Stayed here last night, our host was quite charming and helpful in giving us advice on what to do in Stanford. The hotel would be improved by updating the decor but the prices will rise and I prefer a reasonably priced hotel in the centre of Stamford as it is. If you want a corporate hotel go to one, if you want a quirky hotel with a warm and comfortable room come here.

Stamford Theatre Break
Arrived early and the manager kindly let us park at the Hotel after moving another car, which was greatly appreciated by us. We made then made the short 5 minute walk into Stamford. Upon checking in the manager greeted us with a smile and was extremely helpful by carrying our case and showing us around. The room was clean and tidy, but a bit tired in areas. It benefited from an included Continental Breakfast, available in the room, with good quality ingredients, which was all freshly prepared and put in the fridge. The Hotel benefited from free WI-FI. We didn’t eat in the restaurant as we attending a show at the Theatre, We will certainly look forward to returning when in the area again

Very accommodating staff. The manager/owner moved his own car out of the car park to make room for our car. The room was a bit tired and there was no shower in the bathroom. Breakfast was in a fridge in the room which needed to be defrosted. The bed was comfortable though.

A characterful gem
We had two nights here and loved it, the location was perfect, walkable to the town centre and Burghley House. The hotel is full of character and we received a warm welcome. The breakfast provided had everything we needed. We hope to come back for another stay in the New Year and try the restaurant option.

A gem of a place
This is a quirky, cosy hotel - more of a restaurant with rooms. My single room was a little on the extra cosy side, but clean and comfortable. The bathroom and decor probably needs an up grade, but for a one- night stay, was not an issue. Excellent location - just a short stroll into town.

Lovely stay in Stamford!
Very pleasant overnight stay at Candlesticks! The owner was lovely, very welcoming and helpful. My room was spotless, the only down side was it not having a shower but it did have a bath and as I never seem to find time for a bath it made a nice change.

Peaceful Candlesticks
Great hidden gem in Stamford. Well priced. The owner welcomed me with an easy check Room was ideal. Candlesticks in situated in a peaceful area but with only a short walk and your in the centre of town I would not hesitate to rebook again.
