Small but clean, tidy, dark and quiet room. Breakfast was a nice surprise. Kitchen had everything necessary to prepare a meal. Would recommend and rebook.
Out of the 10 places we stayed while we were traveling around Iceland, this one was our favorite. It was impeccably maintained, looked classy, clean, comfortable bed, quiet, and the staff was awesome. Paul even helped carry our bags up to our room.
We had a wonderful stay for one night here. We were assigned room 1, downstairs next to the kitchen. We used the kitchen to make dinner & the big fridge to store our cold items. The sauna was great & so was the hot tub (they both have views overlooking the farm/mountains). The place has a nice, large communal area to hang out, providing games, books & a large TV. The owner is very friendly. Breakfast was good. The entire place is kept up very well. We loved our stay here!
Staff extremely welcoming. Room size, privacy/quiet/blackout curtains excellent. Beds very comfortable, linens cozy. Hot pot and sauna wonderful. Horses, chickens, and dogs were nice! The kitchen was clean and easy to use. Dining/common area clean and welcoming. Complimentary breakfast offered was delicious, thank you! Also appreciated the offer of wine/beer at check-in desk.
*Karuna Guesthouse is a 10-15 minute drive either direction to a town with gas/grocery (vinbudin/tire repair--rite of passage for an Icelandic rental car experience--in Saudarkrokur).
*Drangey Island tours for local lore and puffins! We spent an entire day learning about Grettir the strong (and his laug), the puffins, and the auks after a rather thrilling hike to the top of nearby Drangey Island
*Close by to other local points of interest- look for the clover signs! Hiking available fir those prepared for it.
*Easy drive to Akureyri and back for zipline/swimming pool/museum/Forest Lagoon, but with a much more peaceful rest at the end of the day.
*Trollaskagi peninsula drive beautiful and accessible.
*Horses and touring motorcycle heaven!
*Solitude...common snipe calls and mating wing song... unbelievable setting for viewing solstice midnight sun while having charcuterie on the patio
We stayed for one night but enjoyed the views, the animals, and talking to the owner and her daughter. The kitchen space was great. It is shared so made some new friends as well.
Thanks,
Eric & Mary
Unbelievable views and tranquil location. We had a family room with bunkbeds, as well as two other beds and it was so spacious. My favourite part of the guest house was the great room, somewhere you can relax watch TV and have breakfast. The owners are incredibly hospitable and very responsive to our queries. We highly recommend this guest house for travels in northern Iceland.
exceeded my expectations. nicely remodeled rooms, simple but very comfy for a one night stay for my family. the hot tub and sauna were perfect after a long day of hiking.
Such a lovely guesthouse. We only stayed for 1 night as a family of 4. The room was large, very comfortable. The sgarzd kutchen and dining area allowzd us to feel at home. The location is fantastic with great views. We were able to use the facilities inc. Sauna and hot tub. The breakfast was a delighful surprise. We can only recommend it

The code to the key boxes for the toliets the lighting at night trying to get the keys then finding someone put the wrong keys in the wrong box not what you need in the middle of the night
The location was stunning overlooking fields and property had horses and chickens. Where we stayed had shared bathrooms. Never had issue waiting for it as they have 2 with showers and toilet and 2 toilets in the common area. Room was a bit small. But if you book the private bathroom options looked like it was addition of the building so newer and more spacious. Hot tub and sauna were a great added addition. We enjoyed common area and the breakfast. Front desk was helpful with providing recommendations.
The front desk of this guesthouse operates until 10 p.m., and the management is strict—the kitchen is locked right on time. There’s a private hot tub and sauna in front of the house, but we arrived too late that day to use them. Breakfast was simple. I forgot my iPad when I left, and it was the staff who texted me and brought me back to retrieve it.
Amazing property and great service . One of the best properties I stayed at during my 8 day trip where I was staying at a different place each day . They provide free breakfast and also have hot tub on the property where I can see the mountains while sitting in the hot tub.
If it was possible to give more than 5 stars I would give it. Hands down one of the nicest property .
Very nice hostel with hot tub and sauna with nice view. Maybe the kitchen is a bit small if a big group of people is there at same time but in general I recommend!!! Very nice place!!
Very nice hotel in beautiful location! The views in and around were incredible. Mountains to both sides with incredible views even in the breakfast room. We were there when the day was 22 hours long, at the night it was still pretty bright, and the blackout shades were not great at achieving actual darkness in the room. This is a problem we had with 5 of 6 of the hotels we stayed at in Iceland, so not atypical. Sauna and hot tub, both had nice views, were also very nice. The many farm animals were friendly.
