Mixed review. The room was clean, even if a bit dated. The bathroom could have been better for the room rate. The mira shower was similar to the one I had at home more than 20 years ago. The pillows were firm and of poor quality for a room costing over £300 per night but the bed was comfy.
The longe area had a fabulous sea view and was decorated beautifully for Christmas. The parking was easy.
The breakfast was a bit sparce for £40 but cooked very well.
We would stay again if on the area.
Excellent. The staff we lovely. Just a couple of points we noted - We stayed in the room opposite the lift and the lift was quite loud. There is also a spotlight which shines very brightly in to the room.
A one-night stay for the first time at this hotel but given a welcome as if we were long established guests staying much longer. A compact room but with a spacious en suite and nice big towels. A smallish double bed but very comfortable.
Very comfortable hotel, excellent attentive staff, spotlessly clean, good breakfast, didn't eat there due to concerts we were attending during Folk week started too early for service. Good parking which can be a bonus in Sidmouth. Traditional luxury. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

Hotel was lovely, clean, room, spa and food was great but wish was made aware it was a hotel catered and focused for older people as we felt uncomfortable as no younger guests, also wish was more clear that the spa and outdoor pool was not in this hotel and had to walk over to sister hotel adjacent

Disliked: Staff & service
The room was comfortable, also the bed so we had good night rest.
We did not like service in the bar area. We went to the bar after long way drive, there was a lot of staff, but nobody came to take our order. We had to wait nearly 20 min to be serve.
Good location, plenty of parking. Room clean staff excellent (apart from one). Sink and shower could do with attention to wastes as both slow to empty. (Easy to adjust).
Area above reception could do with cleaning as viewable from balcony above.
Food very good.
Lovely bedroom with view of cricket ground. Staff helpful and pleasant. Lounge attractive and food very good.
Bedroom would benefit from a safe, a fridge and dressing gowns.
Will be interested to see how the use of sister hotel swimming pool and spa will work out.
Many thanks to staff for looking after us.
Brilliant
We pulled up in a convenient parking space not 50 steps from the check-in desk after a day of driving
We took our luggage out of the car boot and before we could even close it again, a smartly dressed, smiling, very polite Jack appeared and asked if he could help with our bags
Immediately we knew we’d found a lovely hotel
And that set the tone for our stay; friendly, easy check-in, bit of an upgraded room (thank you) very well appointed, spacious, clean, light, comfortable.
Enjoyed a drink on the sunny terrace, again first class service from the staff there, which was equally first class from the waiting staff in the restaurant; super meal followed by a good night’s sleep
The same friendly, efficient service at breakfast, and a cheerful check-out
Not had such an agreeable hotel experience in a long time
Received a free upgrade…. to a room that was likely noisier than the room type we paid for due to sports and the jazz festival in town, which is probably why we got upgraded so a regular visitor could have a quieter room.
Cannot fault the staff who went over and above and we all super friendly. And the food was gorgeous.
We did feel that as a lesbian couple we were not really welcomed there - especially when the young staff member checking us in gave a shocked look when she realised that our room was made up as a double. If the hotel is not LGBTQ+ friendly then that should be made clear, a less comfortable couple could have been upset/stressed by the looks received from guests and staff.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Belmont. We would ask for a bigger bathroom next time. You could hardly brush your teeth in the sink due to the cabinet above. Bedroom was fine although there was no fridge or mini bar unless you requested one, no bath robes ( a lot of hotels do have these now) Quite upmarket hotel, dining was good with some lovely meals, but don't order the crab salad starter which was a total joke due to how tiny it was. I think it had one piece of cress with it, and the amount of crab was a laugh and one main course of lamb was very poor quality, but apart from those 2, all the rest of the food was great but over priced. Jacket and tie for dinner was fun, everyone making an effort. The staff were brilliant, helpful and friendly, with the general manager, Tim, always ready to help. The bar manager, Stewart, was fairly abrasive with my wife when she asked for tea, stating that he was far too busy at the moment! Good location for the seafront, free parking. I would give it 9 out of 10.
This hotel is absolutely amazing. Really attentive friendly and welcoming staff who can’t do enough for you. It’s a really nice touch for the general manager to take an interest in you and also personally ensure you are enjoying your stay. The food is exceptional and everyone is so polite. Nothing is too much trouble at this hotel. We will definitely be back.
