Please take into account I was a foreign tourist. The plus's are the service was good and the tea was excellent. The negatives are the building and grounds pictured in the listing are no longer in use. They are being replaced with a completely new hotel which is under construction. There are no 23 teas offered and the menu is limited and no longer intercontinental. What rooms and facilities are left are in serious need of updating. The biggest problem is that they only accept cash and Indian credit cards - no international credit cards - this strapped us for the next segments of our trip. This is a show stopper for any international traveler.

The front desk was super gracious polite and helpful. They even gave free upgrade because bathroom of Scottish villa room wasn’t pristine clean. The property is very elegant for nature lover wanting peace and getaway from city crowd but still being inside the city.

Wonderful family that owns and manages! All stars for them! Was not particularly comfortable while there. Room was cold and electric heater not strong enough to compensate. Clearly much investment/repair is underway. From what I understand, will be very nice! Particularly the new Valley View rooms which are under construction. I don’t enjoy leaving net-negative reviews but I do think that, in the spirit of honest crowd-sourcing of information…… In short, a cute/historic place with very nice staff. Just temper your expectations (at least until the construction and repairs are completed).

I guess you get what you pay for - so if you are only interested in a low price and not what the stay is like - ignore the rest of this. But here is a sampling of the issues. A very very steep drive in with shear drop offs (you have have an experienced driver). The website claims there are mountain views - I could not see that any room had that - I was in the largest building and top floor and there was another building standing in the way plus tall trees that obscured any view of the mountains. The staff wants to be helpful and are well intentioned but they are poorly trained. As an example - cleaning - there were empty coke and beer bottles on the balcony from the previous guests as well as cigarette ashes & candy wrappers. I asked to have this cleaned up but the staff cleaner only took away the bottles - the ashes and wrappers remained. There were cob webs in the bathroom. The facility is in shambles and needs a complete renovation (wires hanging off fan connected by cheap tape; peeling paint on doors and elsewhere, peeling fake wood laminate floors, doors that don't close properly etc). The room I had had a small padlock on the main door that first of all was very difficult to get through the latch because the latch was not in line - I had to kick the latch to get it on enough to put on the padlock. A well aimed hit with a small hammer would allow entry. Coming in, you are greeted with a massive ugly cement unfinished structure which is abandoned.

I understand that Shimla is a hill station with uneven terrain and narrow roads. Even with this limitation, this hotel has an excellent land area and profile. The hotel must have enjoyed excellent glory in the past. However, this hotel is now unacceptably old and most of the features are worn out. This hotel needs a complete make over before being presented for international standard accommodation. However, we truly appreciate the help, care and concern of the staff and availability of quality food with the room service option.

Serenity of Bustling Shimla City

It was a pleasant stay. Staff and owner are very cordial and helpful. It is a fantastic property in a prime location, yet away from city noise. Surrounded by dense forest, the property is a must visit

Not worth staying in this property. Parking is not safe. The access road is dangerous. Food and room service are bad. The room amenities are not of quality.
