"It is a quirky place. Looks very plain from the front but was a lovely place to stay. Great service from arrival to departure. Food was superb. After checking out we were on our way to Sunderland when we realised we hadn't tipped the staff so, we turned back and did so. That's how good it was. Will definitely return."

Excellent food in the restaurant. My wife is coeliac and they knew exactly how to cater for her dietary requirements, nothing was too much trouble. And the location is perfect, across the road from the castle and short walk to the local shops, bars and restaurants. Will definitely stay here again "

"This review considers the amazingly low price we paid (£40), compared to other availability in the area. We requested (and booked) a family room, on arrival, we were given two double rooms opposite each other. Not a problem for our 1 night stay, but it could have been. We enjoyed our meals in the bistro including breakfast in 3 mornings and an evening meal - the food was delicious and every attention to detail was given. We were very impressed with all aspects of our stay and will definitely book again when back in Northumbria!"
