The Kimpton Sawyer Hotel is easily one of Sacramento’s most stylish and well-located properties. Situated in the heart of Downtown Commons (DOCO) and steps from the Golden 1 Center, it offers a modern, upscale experience with resort-style amenities that rival boutique hotels in larger cities.
From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted with contemporary decor, high ceilings, and an atmosphere that feels both urban and serene. The rooftop pool and Revival bar are standout features—perfect for sunset cocktails or unwinding after a show. Rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and many offer sweeping city views. Service is consistently friendly, and the social vibe in the lobby during events is magnetic.
However, it’s impossible to ignore the growing presence of homelessness and open drug use just beyond the hotel’s immediate property lines. While the hotel itself feels safe and well-secured, stepping even a block or two outside—particularly on K Street or toward the train station—can feel uncomfortable or even unsettling, especially for families or solo travelers unfamiliar with the area.
The staff does an admirable job maintaining a sense of calm and cleanliness within the hotel, and security is visible and proactive. That said, Sacramento’s urban challenges do impact the experience, and guests should be prepared for the contrast between the luxury inside the hotel and the stark reality just outside.
