Between its charming town, large and small lakes and the looming Saddleback Mountain, discover why this part of Maine is such a popular year-round holiday destination.

Explore the beauty of inland Maine in Rangeley. Located in Franklin County in the western part of the state, this area is a largely untainted wilderness with lots to see and do in all seasons.

Discover the major lakes: Rangeley, Mooselookmeguntic, Cupsuptic, the Upper and Lower Richardsons, Umbagog and Aziscohos that make up the Rangeley Lakes Region. Take a boat cruise around Rangeley Lake or go canoeing between Mooselookmeguntic and Cupsuptic. All the lakes are popular fishing destinations. Get a licence and try to catch one of the region’s famous salmon.

Hike through hundreds of acres of wilderness in Rangeley Lake State Park. Go for a refreshing plunge in the swimming area at the southern edge of the lake. Use the public boat launch or set up for the night in one of the park’s many campsites.

Climb to the top of Bald Mountain. Hike less than 2 miles (3 kilometres) to the summit of the mountain, where you are rewarded with panoramic views of green forests and sparkling lakes to the horizon.

Stroll down Main Street in the town of Rangeley. Browse through its unique stores, which sell everything from locally made crafts to outdoor gear. Take a photo in front of the large sign in town noting that Rangeley is halfway between the North Pole and the Equator.

Step inside the tiny brick Rangeley Lakes Historical Society and look through old photographs and other artefacts. Learn about the state’s rich logging and conservation heritage at the nearby Maine Forestry Museum.

In winter months, take advantage of high-altitude snow at Saddleback Mountain. Enjoy the slopes on your snowboard or skis or sip a mug of hot chocolate in the resort lodge.

Watch for Maine’s iconic resident, the moose, during your trip to Rangeley. You can often find moose enjoying a hearty meal of aquatic and woodland vegetation. View them from a safe distance, as they will sometimes charge unwitting tourists.

9.2/10 Wonderful! (610 reviews)
"It is a nice hotel and the room was great. The only problem was we were on the sixth floor and it was a tiny bit windy, but it sounded like we had a wind tunnel in our room. It kept waking us up both nights that we were there, sounded like a tornado was going through the room."
