"The room was very clean and I liked the facility. It was close to town, and a nice walk to the beach. The pools were fun and the hotel is very modern. Our room was pretty small and we made it work. If you want a bigger room, make sure you click on the suites, etc. Would stay there again. "

I was looking to step out of my comfort zone for a more natural, local experience off the beaten path, and this place delivered. El Refugio is new and Marcelo is currently building it out, but the rooms themselves were spotless. As a designer myself, I have to say his style and vision are absolutely on point. A few things to note: the common areas are a bit more 'raw' and rustic (a little dusty, living in the jungle vibe), and the surrounding area is a little off-putting at first glance. However, it is just a short walk to the city and beach, so it works out perfectly. Marcelo was fantastic—an all-around great host and very herb-friendly. If you are looking for a unique spot with a great vibe, I highly recommend it.""
