Close to runway
Great stay at this property. Very handy for airport as literally 200 yards away. Airport only for day flights/light planes so noise not an issue.Close to centre and beaches. Hosts activities and suggest you book before arriving as very popular in February. Checked me in early and plenty of parking. Plenty of green in grounds and suspect looks very different in rainy season. Room basic and everything worked including a/c. Plenty of space outside the you can room I booked. Easy place to socialise with fellow guests although there seemed to be a lot of people working on their laptops!

Nice but has air conditioning issues.
The grounds were lovely and the people were nice but the air conditioner went off in the middle of the night both nights we were there. We would wake up, hot and it was hard to sleep. It is very hot in Costa Rica in February. Both mornings we had to hunt down someone to turn it back on. They said it was the breaker switch but both times the rest of the electricity was on. It was uncomfortable and very annoying.

Karen, we are sorry to read about the air conditioning issues. Unfortunately, we are unable to control power outages in the village, but we will endeavor to find a solution, so the AC starts back up when we do lose power. We'll have to speak with a technician, which can be difficult at the end of the road, but we will start work on this as soon as possible. Thanks for letting us know about the issue.

I stayed in cabin #9 with no WiFi. Every time I need internet, I should go to reception area. To eat, I should go to town. Did not see as much wildlife on property as I expected, based on reviews.

Hello Alixsander. You are correct, cabin 9 does not have WIFi. It is not advertised with WIFi. It is a WIFI free zone. No WIFI. Once again you are correct, there is no restaurant. We advertise no restaurant. But you can cook at communal kitchen. Animal sightings are usually dependent on patience. The more patience you have the more animals are seen. Thanks for visiting.

It's always a shock to wake up to a review like this! We don't have any idea how to understand it. But that is normal with anonymous reviews as we can't review the guests stay. Like all properties, we use reviews to better our service, but if they are not specific, it is difficult for us to respond in a positive manner. However, you should believe the photos or pictures because they are ALL taken on the property and we're definitely not sure how you can check them before booking as the reviewer suggests. All we can imagine is that something went wrong with the guest's visit and instead of advising us on site, so we could have a chance to resolve the issue, the guest decided to write this kind of review that helps no one. Or this is possibly a case of mistaken hotel identity which is a common mistake of guests after returning home after visiting a number of hotels during their Costa Rican adventure. Either way, it is not indicative of Chosa Manglar Nature Retreat and we apologize to future guests for misleading comments made by the reviewer. Andrew Gray Co-owner.

The staff and owners are so friendly and welcoming! I’d say the atmosphere was the best part! Leaving a no so great review for a few reasons: The apartment was advertised to sleep 6, but there were no bed linens for the futons. There was plumbing issues. Not hot water (which isn’t a huge deal but if you’re paying 175$ a night it would be nice). And last, the coffee maker was molded out and generally all the dishes were not completely clean. To be clear, I think it is a great place, I was just very disappointed in what I got for the money.

Thanks for your review. We are working hard to get everything back to normal after a horrid 9 months. We are obviously failing in some areas. A new coffee pot has already been purchased. Hot water is working but if faucet is opened too much it reduces hot water due to cold water pressure. Since the reservation was only marked for one person we did not feel the need to set up for 6 guests. When requested we happily obliged with sheets for a 4th guest. Since we are working with reduced manpower we kindly request that all guests inform reception of any shortcomings. We will do our best to rectify them while you are still here rather than finding out days later. have a great 2021!

Beautiful hostel adjacent to Corcovado
Beautiful hostel on the edge of Corcovado National Park in Puerto Jimenez. I loved hanging out in the covered courtyard. I was greeted on my arrival with several pairs of scarlet macaws in the trees. I loved hanging out in the beautiful covered courtyard area.

Price...? Depends on your face... or on the staff
First night we paid 80$ US to the young mens at the reception on December 3, 2016. The hotel was empty. We came back the night after and booked on the net and we paid 39,99$ US!! Do I trust the staff? No hot water, and the door lock didn't worked the first night. Rooms are really clean with air conditioning. The place is magic, beautiful, many animals and birds. Highly recommended you to book on the web.

Toucans in the garden & a lizard in the room!
My favorite place in Costa Rica! Rustic and so charming. Fantastic for lazy birdwatching and nature study right on site: and close to the beautiful Dulce Gulf and Corcovado National Park, as well. The entire staff is warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. There is no place on Earth quite like this. I can hardly wait to go back. :)

Wonderful place for nature watching
Had a great experience at the hotel and in the town. This place is paradise for those who love nature, but prefer a few more conveniences than camping. The common kitchen and salon were the perfect place to prepare and enjoy a meal and visit with fellow guests. The town is in easy walking distance and offers shops, groceries and restaurants. The weather was a bit hot for my liking, but the guest rooms have air conditioning. They also have a 'real hot water' shower - as opposed to the 'suicide' showers so many places in Costa Rica have. If you want to stay in the lap of luxury, this is not the place for you. But if you want to relax and enjoy nature and get to know some lovely people, I recommend you check out La Chosa del Manglar. We will stay here if we visit Peurto Jimmenez again!

Rustic & basic, but sympathic!
Well, at first, yes, I would recommend this hotel, althought the poor ratings for facilities aspects of the hotel. Yeah, there is not much comfort. But when it comes to the price, the sympatic atmosphere and the beautyfull allmost park-like garden around, this place turns out to be not so bad at all! The "lobby" area is completely open - no windows or doors, just a roof,so you sit more or less outside during dinner. At this clima, not the worse thing. ;) There is no restauant and even no breakfast, but a Kitchen that everybody can use. As this kitchen is also open (means no windows but just a grid), the hygienic circumstances are difficult - there are little ants everywhere. So don't let your bread outside in the kitchen and you'll be fine. The entire hotel staff does not speak one single word english!!! But try it with a few words in spanish, and they'll do their best to understand and to help you! :) The rooms & beds are almost clean. Almost.... The equipment of the rooms is basic but ok. There is an AC, but no safe. All in all: a beautifull and affordeable hotel which I can recommend, as far you don't await service and cleanliness like in a 4**** Star Hotel.

La Chosa is Heaven on Earth!
Amazing place to stay. For the price.. this hotel cannot be beat in this area. Other nearby hotels like Iguana Lodge are extremely secluded and you have to take a taxi in order to get to any restaurants or other areas around town. Every day we woke up to the monkeys, macaws, and toucans in the gorgeous gardens surrounding the hotel. If you want to truly authentic and gorgeous rain forest experience, this is your place!

Great hotel in it's own jungle
I really liked this place a lot. We are a Family of 2 adults and 2 children, and we are very satisfied with our stay here. The staff are very friendly and helped us with any questions we had about the tourist attractions. A small jungle surrounds the hotel where you can see monkeys and parrots. You can follow a small trail within the hotel area. The kitchen is great to be able to make your own food. It is mostly backpackers coming by and staying for a couple of days. The hotel is quite and felt very safe. Beach is only a 10-15 minute walk where you can rent a kayak and see dolphins in the Beach.

The hotel is in a bad shape, our toilet was leaking so badly, that we had a lot if water in our room...it stank...in iur first room we had lots of bugs and a scorpion... But, the garden is fantastic, there are nice hammocks and lots of animals to be seen (parrots, monkeys, lizards) The staff is really friendly and helps a lot. I guess you get what you pay for. But don't expect the kitchen to be really new/clean. The whole place is old, but has its charme.
