"I was there for a 60’s weekend so didn’t use the facilities much. The rooms were fine but bathroom was tired What I expected in a hotel this old. A lot of renovations going on on the outside and a new lift has been installed so money is being invested. Staff were all lovely On a hilly location so need plenty stamina"

"On the whole, our experience was positive. The room was spotless, relatively recently decorated, and with fairly good amenities. We had some difficulty locating the kettle, which was in built-in wardrobe rather than next to the tea and coffee, cups etc, however those guests needing wardrobe space wouldn’t be disappointed. There was also a mini fridge. The beds and bedding were immaculate and good quality, and there were limited toiletries provided. Unfortunately though, I have taken off one star because of the abysmal - or should I say non-existent - customer service. I had a query regarding parking prior to actual check-in time. We knew we would be arriving earlier than 3pm so I contacted the owners to ask if it was ok to park in the morning, however received no response to messages sent through Expedia and left on their answering machine, and then once I’d found their email address on their website I sent another message asking the same question but all the response I received said was “thank you”. We parked there anyway and it wasn’t a problem. We will definitely be staying here again though, despite the lack of customer service, as it is extremely good value for money and very conveniently located in the town, around a 10 minute walk away from the centre/ railway station."

"Furniture and fittings very antiquated. Bedding very old and worn, bed linen did not look clean and fresh. Bathroom shower looks as if mould growing around base, not hot water to the basin, towels very worn and ruff. Breakfast very poor, left on landing to help yourself, cereal and fruit only not worth the payment charged. Parking not easy and very limited particularly for the larger car. Expedia stated only one room left that clearly was not the situation. Definitely not value for money."

"We stayed in the family room which was great. We like the fact that there was 2 separate double bedrooms there's no sitting area but it is a room and not an annexe so it wasn't expected. Both rooms did have separate tea trays so if 2 people wanted to save a bit of cash and share a room it's a great bargain. The shower was plenty big enough and powerful and the bathroom was a decent size too. The towels and bed linen are good quality with feather quilts and pillows and white cotton bedding. There is a fair few stairs to go up so might be unsuitable for people with walking issues. The staff are friendly and check in was so easy and we got an email the day before asking if we needed anything like a late check in or out which can be done at a small cost but as you don't have to checkout until 11 there's was no need for us to do so. The breakfast was not included but the pub downstairs starts serving brunch at 11 and has a great choice so if you want a lay in just go to that , they also serve food all day and it's a good price compared to some places in Whitby. The granby has always been a great pub so it's a bonus to be staying above and the location to other amenities is really good , all in all it was a good reasonably priced stay and we will definitely be back"
