Room was always clean and comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful, especially Aysher. Onsite restaurants, bar service and gym were all great. Front desk also arranged cabs to and from Stone Town and the airport (roughly 1-1/2 hour, $60 trip). A great spot for a beach/pool relaxing vacation. Hot water for showers was an issue, but perhaps common for the Zanzibar region?

The location is amazing and the food at the Chinammon was delicious; however, I can’t recommend this resort based on the horrible internet service, annoying beach boys trying to sell you stuff on the private beach, and the brief, intermittent power outages throughout the day.

Pros: gym facility, free breakfast, reasonable hotel restaurants and room service. House keeping is excellent, okay wifi, decent AC unit, the beach is beautiful, but VERY BUSY AND NOISY. Cons: the power went out maybe 5x a day, morning and night. The beach isn't private, so there will be A LOT of sellers walking up to you and unfortunately you will be harassed constantly. I made friends with one of the Masai beach boys, but that doesn't stop others from walking up to you every few minutes. The security does their best, but sometimes the beach boys even sneak into the hotel grounds at night.

Z Hotel is a spectacular tropical Oasis in Zanzibar! The staff, especially Julia was fabulous, the grounds and decor were beautiful and the food was delicious! I would stay here everytime I would be lucky enough to visit Zanzibar and I will tell everyone I know not to look any further than Z Hotel.

We stayed for three nights following our African Safari. We loved the property and would like to have stayed longer. The staff were delightful, the food was very good and our room with a sea views was on the small side but very comfortable with a good sized deck for all our lounging. We saw a number of properties along the beach and nothing compared to this lovely boutique style property.

We spent 5 nights here, really nice hotel and the staff where all lovely. Really helpful. The hotel was very clean and secure. Pool was nice just right temp to cool down. Beach was a bit too busy so wouldn't describe it as a private beach. I would definitely stay here again.

Pros: Rooms are very clean and A/C keeps room very cool. Very good spot, close to most thing in town. Pools are really nice. Cons: Long stairs, no elevators. My “pool view balcony” overlooked an ugly rooftop of the restaurant. The restaurant staff was extremely slow, I had to get up and bring things myself after asking multiple times. Access to the beach requires walking out of the hotel and going into a long tight driveway where taxi drivers drove way too fast in and we had to squeeze ourselves between trees. The spa staff was pretty much just sitting around on the couch when we entered but they said they were too busy to take us. Although the security did a good job keeping loitering away from guests, it was very annoying sitting by or going to the beach. Shower is too small for the bathroom, needs to be either bigger or a door needs to be added, since every time we took a shower half of the bathroom floor got wet.

The hotel is in a stunning location on a beautiful stretch of beach, best position to see the sunset. Property has a stylish decor and is perfectly maintained. Service is great. The infinity pool is amazing. We got an upgrade to the suite that was very much appreciated. Thank you for the amazing stay and we will come back!

The two standouts of the Z Hotel were the friendly and gracious staff (shout out to Emiliana and Latifa), and the superb seafood restaurant Sexy Fish. I ate there twice and on both occasions the recommendations were spot on. The free breakfast buffet was also excellent. Very cool interior design, with liberal use of tropical themed wallpaper mixed with African fabrics in common areas and guest rooms. Very nice infinity pool overlooking the beach. There are lounge chairs by the pool and on the beach for hotel guests. The beach itself is the classic powdered sugar sand and warm aquamarine water, though at times felt a bit congested because of the restaurant projecting out from the hotel on one side of the beach, the small boats anchored in the water, and the traffic of jet skis and horse rides in the water. It's a nice stroll along the beach, but be prepared to deal with locals hawking souvenirs and tours. I found them friendly and not overly aggressive. If you're looking to buy souvenirs, the hotel is walking distance to a bunch of shops. There are also other restaurants within walking distance if you want to sample food other than what the hotel offers.

A Perfect Solo Getaway

I recently stayed at The Z Hotel Zanzibar as a solo female traveler, and I can’t recommend it enough! From the moment I arrived, I felt completely welcomed and at ease. The staff were incredibly polite, attentive, and genuinely warm, making my stay feel personal. The food and drinks were delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Whether it was a leisurely breakfast overlooking the ocean or a cocktail at the rooftop bar at sunset, every meal felt like an experience in itself. The variety and quality were impressive, with something to suit every craving. The facilities were just as great. The pool area was pristine and perfect for unwinding, while the semi-private beach was just steps away, offering stunning turquoise waters and soft white sand. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a boutique feel that balances luxury with laid-back island vibes. Most importantly, I felt completely safe and secure throughout my stay. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and the overall atmosphere was relaxed yet well-managed. As a solo traveler, this made all the difference—I could fully enjoy my time without any worries. Whether you're traveling alone, as a couple, or with friends, The Z Hotel is an absolute gem. I left feeling refreshed, grateful, and I am very much looking forward to visiting again.
