I rarely write hotel reviews but couldn't resist this opportunity. The hotel is beautiful and the located is perfect. The front desk staff were friendly and professional. The evening I stayed over - I left the hotel at 5pm returning at 11pm. Upon entering my room, I noticed the blinds were closed; new clothes I had purchased that afternoon were neatly laid out on my bed where I left them; chocolates placed by my pillows; the shopping bag moved to the dresser from the bed - and placed next to my wallet and other personal items.- which were exactly where I left them. I realized right away that housekeeping entered my room to turn down my room. However, I never gave my permission or my directive to the front desk. I called the desk and was told that my concern will be shared with management. I asked if this was normal protocol for this hotel - but was not given an exact answer. Upon check-out, the next day - I didn't have time to speak to a manager nor did anyone follow up with me prior to my deoarture anyway. Upon my way home, I called the hotel and asked to speak to a manager. "Jay" - the manager - apologized, but said that this indeed is protocol. I told him that I appreciate the gesture, but didn't give permission to have my room tidied up. He said many hotels in the city do this. I disagreed, having stayed in numerous hotels in NYC not to mention around the world. I also told him that it if it was during the day, I would have stored my valuables in the safe.
