Property is in poor condition and dirty. We complained that the toilet cistern took about 30 minutes to fill up, the proprieter said we were in the part of the building where the plumbing didn’t work! Sticky plastic table cloths at breakfast. Would definitely not recommend this hotel. It should be condemned.

HiWe are sorry that you did not enjoy your stay and can only apologise, management explained that due to the fact it is an older building that the cistern can take a little longer to fill up not that the plumbing doesn't work. The room was dirty and dusty,windows were dirty full of cobwebs,dust on bedframe,bath was dirty as were the wetwalls cobwebs hanging off the ceiling and lights,wimdow frames falling to bits. Breakfast was tasty but slightly overcooked

Was recommended this property by a colleague and i am glad i tried it out the facilities are new and modern and the staff are very attentive. Food was very nice. I found breakfast was a little over priced as there is fixed £15 charge which if you just want toast and a coffee is a bit pricey. But all in all very good and i will visit again.

Very friendly staff. The Scottish breaky was amazing (cooked to order so you wait a wee bit) It's in the center of town. If you stay during Rugby. 7s it gets lively. So if you want piece and quiet avoid those dates. If you want to party during 7s no better place to be. Mint.

Nice old building, good location, friendly and helpful staff but food well below standard. Very poor sound proofing in rooms and bath room facilities in urgent need of refurbishment.

Tired hotel with friendly staff and good food

Overall I thought the hitel was a bit tired and in need of painting, both inside and out. I appreciate its main custom comes from fishermen, so it has to put up with wear and tear. I did enjoy my visit and was well looked after in the bar, where I enjoyed a Rugby World Cup match. I think breakfat may have been cooked in advance the microwaved, as many items were tough. A pity as it was a great selection on the cooked option. I did hear some others, that had been there a few nights, making the same comments.

Very disappointing the whole place looks and feels very tired. Definitely in need of an urgent makeover. Broken tiilet door, light above mirror not working, holes in the wall from hooks pulled out and not put back. Couldn't open bedroom window as sash pulley broken, had to plug draughts coming through window pane with toilet paper. There was no WiFi in the room and mattress not overly comfortable. Would not stay again and not currently recommend

This is an old coach inn and has had a few additions over the years. No elevator, and lots of stairs. This is just a comment and not a criticism. The hotel has lots of character. Room was spacious and very clean. The breakfast was delicious with lots of choices. There is an on site bar that serves equally delicious food. Good selection of beer.

The room was pokey. The bathroom more like a cupboard. Broken blind at the window and a piece of the skirting board on the window sill. Don’t think the window had been cleaned for some time. The whole room was very sad. No housekeeping in the room unless one was staying for 4 nights or more!! Presumably not enough staff to service rooms. Breakfast was appalling. The young staff were very nice, though.

Mostly good.
It is a very friendly hotel, bedrooms clean, linen fresh, breakfast very good. Hotel is in need of an almost complete refurbishment. First day shower switch/button had stuck, needed help to correct it. Could not find bed light switch button, bed had been placed over it, it was behind bedhead! Would stay there again, it is cheaper, has car park and is in central position for Scottish Borders.

Villa Bella only fools and horses if u know u know
Room was clean(ish) and I’m sure the people working are doing the best with what they’ve got to work with but it’s in desperate desperate need of a refurb!! No lock on the window with access via the fire escape, the floors are well out of level and the bathroom is well in need of refurbing with the hot tap on the bath doesn’t shut off so constantly runs hence the stain in the bath. Not worth the money and feel for the people who work there who obviously try their best.

All staff were excellent and helpful. Nothing was ever too much for them and food was excellent too. Room was spacious and clean. Bonus was free car parking at hotel too.

We have stayed here before and it has access to all the local attractions, being central in Melrose. The hotel is comfortable and, although our room was small, we were out most of the day so it served our purpose well, with a brilliant shower. The cooked breakfasts were massive and staff were very accommodating and friendly.
