Probably should have done a little more investigating RE the hotel as I'm not from the area and didn't realise it was positioned above a pub of the same/similar name. As a family with 2 youth children (4 and 6 years old) checking in on a Saturday evening and hoping to get some rest after a long day, we were met with a live band and a lot of noisy punters, which is absolutely fair as it's a pub after all on a Saturday night. Although, after the music shut down there was a lot of stomping around upstairs by the rooms, either from other hotel residents or the noisy lot downstairs, who knows. Just a heads up to other families to perhaps look elsewhere if you're passing through and need some decent rest. Otherwise, staff were great, room was otherwise cosy and quite large, which is always nice, and the breakfast was really decent as well. Can't fault that at all.

West is best
After a camping trip, the overnight stay in a comfortable, clean room (with a mattress!!!) was very welcome. The attention to detail was noted and the staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was top quality and we would have happily stayed there another night. Have already recommended.

1. There was dirty toilet paper when I used the bathroom. 2. The shower head is leaking and when I tried used it to shower my kid the water went to all directions :(. 3. We arrived around 7,8 pm and the room was so hot. There was no fan and two little window were closed. It feels like a joke that someone wants to cook you in room. 4. The room is advertised as Family suit, however the room I got was a room on top floor with super steep unsafe stair. There is no elevator in the building as it’s an old building. There is no way that this room is safe for any young kids. 5. The hotel is operated by the pub restaurant people so it’s hard to get attention when restaurant gets busy. There is no phone in the room so you have to come down to find people to get anything. Overall my suggestion is to avoid booking this place if you have any young kids. I hope you donot get room on top floor in summer , otherwise you may get fried in your room. It’s overpriced as well. I paid over $200 for zero service with dirty toilet plus hot room.

Comfy - earlier breakfast would have been perfect
Comfy hotel with good food and drink. Room was big and well equipped. Only issue for me was that breakfast is from 8am in the week. Offered pain aux raisin to go. When I can to get it - it was pain aux chocolat. Would have like a proper breakfast to start before 8.

Can I buy the bed?
A very relaxing stay with good quality food available on site at very affordable prices in the evening. There is a variety of options to suit all tastes for breakfast to choose from and I deliberated for a long time the first morning before deciding. The room had a very comfortable bed, (I can't remember the last time I slept for over 12 hours), kettle with plenty of hot drinks to choose from) and a bathroom bigger than some hotels, with a powerful, easy-to-operate shower. On the downside, as someone with a disability, there are quite a few stairs and the floor levels themselves do vary slightly. Overall, I cannot recommend this place enough and will certainly stay here again next time if they have availability, but I will pre-book my taxi from the station, as there is no taxi rank at the station.

Good Needs attention to detail.
Spoilt by small things. Only ground coffee in rooms and fiddly cafetiere. No decaffeinated available. Only sourdough tough toast for breakfast. BAr coffee machine O/C. Comfortable room though.

Village farce
The room we were in room 5 was over the boiler room se we got no sleep whatsoever as the radiator banged all night due to trapped air in the system. This started 10 min after entering the room. I went downstairs to find the whole pub deserted absolutely nobody left to discuss it with in the hotel and no emergency number . After a five hour drive you do not expect to get no sleep ! . Complaining the next morning we got moved rooms for the second night but tbo we were so tired and fed up would have preferred to move to another hotel ! The food in the bar was also very average and the bar service very strange . Lots of Inexperienced staff doing their best but inadequately trained , breakfast was a joke nothing written down so the order was completely wrong and we ate at different times due to the food arriving 15 min apart! Which is hilarious seeing as the second dish was beans on toast ! would never stay again and to top it all was told on arrival it was pre paid only to get emails after asking me to call them to arrange payment! What a joke !

The staff were all very helpful. Our room was at the front of the hotel and although a lot of traffic passed by the overall noise was limited. All the meals we had there were good. Thankyou all for a great weekend.

Room was great however we were disappointed to be asked to pay a service charge for ordering food and drinks at the bar. Bar also called last orders at 8 pm on Sunday evening!

Good room, comfy bed 😊 This hotel had only opened recently, apparently so the restaurant wasn’t open Mon/Tue but enough alternatives around. Steak meal was delicious when it did open! Great, friendly staff.

Overnight stop in Melksham
Nice hotel, appears to be an old coaching inn. Good food, nice clean room the only drawback was the last flight of stairs is quite steep so some people may struggle. However there is ground floor accommodation available if you specify when you book.
