"My wife and I celebrate our 20th anniversary this year, so we decided to spend a week in New York City, a place neither of us had been before. After a lot of research, keeping in mind that we had a relatively tight budget, we chose to stay at the L.I.C. Manhattan View. Now, I read a lot of reviews from other visitors, and I saw the good and the bad, so let me give you my opinion now that the week is over. So is the hotel a five star property? It is not, for one reason, and I'll get to that momentarily. The Manhattan View is a budget oriented hotel and in some ways, that shows. There are some cosmetic imperfections. But seriously, is that something to complain about? I don't believe so as long as the owners don't allow it to get out of control. This isn't The Ritz Carlton. Minor shortcomings will not affect your stay. Our room was clean and the bed was comfortable. It was a firm mattress, but no different than the one I have at home. The location was perfect also. The subway is 2 short blocks away and in less than 15 minutes you're in Time Square. In addition, there's a great bodega across the street with delicious, fresh food and very nice employees. There aren't very many fast food restaurants in the area, but there are a number of sit-down establishments. The hotel doesn't have a lot of amenities, but there are some pluses such as free coffee in the lobby, a public microwave and water bottles at the asking. I was told there's a gym downstairs, but I"

"It’s all good"

"This hotel was “fine”, but I think my biggest issue is there is no way this is a 4-star property. I don’t know how stars are assigned, but it felt like a 3-star hotel (like the Wyndham Ramada down the street). I actually forgot it was supposed to be a 4star property, because it just felt like your run of the mill, average, lower-mid priced motels. Staff was helpful, didn’t use the gym like I planned, but nice it was there. Breakfast was “meh”; 3 or 4 things on the menu and it was nothing to write home about. Maybe the soufflés they advertise are a weekend thing, but was not an option when I was there. I also tried to go out to the outdoor lounge/deck just off the restaurant one evening around 5pm and was told it was closed due to weather (it was supposed to rain later that night, but was not raining then), when I questioned that she said “it’s too late”. It was still light out, but I could tell I wasn’t going to get anywhere so left it at that, but that amenity is open subject to whenever they want it seems. Location kinda depends what you’re looking for. I did walk to Citi Field one evening (took the train 1 stop on the way back). Overall it was fine, but if I find myself in this neighborhood again, I won’t be rushing to stay here."

"Do not stay at this hotel! The room was quite cold and there was no way to control the air conditioning temperature. The floor was dirty and unswept. There was a coffee maker but no cups and no decaf so we were unable to have coffee in the room. We were unable to find a convenient local coffee shop. The bed was comfortable. Once the noisy children in a nearby room went to bed we were able to get a good night sleep. There was NO WIFI despite our attempts to use the log in information. We advise you choose a different hotel."
