A great place to stay while visiting the rock hewn churches. The staff are very friendly and helpful with logistics and very accommodating to my unique needs. Everything was very comfortable and clean.

Stayed in the treehouse and it was excellent. The view of the sunset was visible and I slept like a baby each night. Will definitely stay there again. The staff were friendly the dinner options were great. Breakfast options were limited but what was there was tasty. Relatively close to the Rock churches so that was good.

Overall had a very pleasant stay. The lodge had great view of the valley. There's an overlook spot with amazing sunset while enjoying a beer. I also booked the all inclusive tour package through the hotel covering everything from airport pick-up/drop-off and guided tour to the rock churches & mountain top monetary. My guide Melese was great, with tons of knowledge about the cultural & religious tradition of Lalibela. Highly recommended. Btw, for bird lovers the lodge is also a great place for bird watching, particularly near the edge of the cliff before sunset where the beautiful Ethiopian bee-eaters can be spotted.

Possible conflict area

Amazing place with great people. We were surprised by the beauty of the place. View of the valley of losing your breath. Great breakfast, well served, tasty and with good service. Just make sure the region has internet and electric light. We stayed two nights and the city had the electricity and internet cut off due to a civil conflict in the region. The hotel has a generator to heat bath water and recharge cell phones and electronic equipment. It's a shame because the region deserves to be visited.

Good stay in the heart of Lalibela, approximately 20 minutes walk from the rock-hewn churches. The property is in a quiet area of the town overlooking a valley and distant hills offering a great view. The property has an array of different rooms which are well maintained offering different experiences. The food menu has good variety and the staff are quite hospitable.

The owner was very accommodating and helpful. Although this region was and continues to be impacted by the Civil War, Huti the owner went out his way to provide the best service. For example, he upgraded my room to a Suite on my first day. Speaking of the room, the views from the suites can't be beat. Overall I had a great experience at the Sora Lodge.

We stayed in the rooms that were like regular hotel rooms. The views were beautiful from both the balcony and the front door. I was not aware that the lodge has newer rooms that are fabulously beautiful and actually quite luxurious. I saw them on the day we left and wish we had stayed in those. They cost more, of course, but I would have enjoyed those rooms and their extra-special location. The service was excellent and friendly. I recommend heartily.

Great location in Lalibela, was able to walk everywhere to see the stone churches. Was quiet and the staff was very helpful with anything I needed. One thing to remember is Lalibela is without power at the moment, so Sora had a small generator that ran for 3-4 hours a day which was enough to charge my devices. However, it means a current lack of hot water, though plenty of water to clean with as needed. I would recommend staying there and might revisit when I return to the area.
