This is not our first time stayed with Royal Brock Hotel, the previous experience was great that's why we came back again. The cleanliness was still good, breakfast was decent, yet the front desk staff was disappointing us. He had a negative attitude, ignored us when we stepped into the hotel, myself work in the hospitality industry, I can't believe that being a front desk agent can be this impolite. I didn't expect this from RB.

It served the purpose.
I have chosen this hotel because of its close proximity to the local university (five minutes walk just across the street). I later found out that it was an old Best Westen now operating as Royal Brock. The hotel is no doubt very old and poorly maintained, a reason for the very reasonable rate. Much work is needed especially in the toilet. However, the staff at the reception (the only staff I have interacted with while staying there for two nights) was very friendly and helpful, the WiFi works good, and if one isn’t picky, the hotel does offer a simple breakfast for free every morning. Oh, and it does have a decent indoor pool.

The room is clean, but it's OLD, air con too loud
The staff is friendly and helpful, but I can see the budget very limited, feel sorry the front desk staff has to do EVERYTHING. The housekeeper didn't clean our room for 3 days, 1st day my husband put privacy sign on by mistake, next 2 days no sign was on, but still didn't clean the room, the toilet is ALMOST plugged, the sink is 80% plugged up, call front desk, sent plumber right away, WIFI is very weak which my son complained most, leaking water from the roof water all over the stairs after the big rain storm. Didn't try the breakfast at all. so no commend.

May Have to Re Think Staying Again
Check in was fine. I liked that we were on the main floor and did not have to climb stairs. The rooms do have to be updated! Our room in particular was very damp and smelled like it. I am not sure if there is a water leak issue or what. Was not happy about that. At breakfast...they had run out of some of the food, but more was being made when I finally was able to talk to a girl who worked there. There were no plates or utensils when we showed up. I took it upon myself to fill the knives, forks and spoons as people needed them and no staff was around. There should be someone out there checking on these simple things all the time. Overall the breakfast was ok. These issues with the room were a problem the last time we stayed. May have to re think staying again.

Price, location, room space, services at Front desk, breakfast are all good. Only one thing needs to take care of is the number of staffs serving breakfast. When supplies ran out, it took quite a while to be refilled which cause inconvenience.

Large room but not clean
I checked in and found that the room is not clean yet and air-conditioning is running (seems like others are staying in the room). A lot hair in bathroom from previous guest. No elevator at conference building. It is not suitable for heavy luggage. However, the front staff is really nice and helpful.

This was our second stay at the Royal Brock Hotel in Guelph and would recommend it to anyone. The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable. The complimentary hot breakfast was good if a bit repetitive but saved going out somewhere. We didn't make use of the pool but it also looked clean and inviting. We would stay again for sure!

BEWARE OF BEDBUGS
The room smelled weird when we first walked in, and I thought about leaving and finding another place to stay but talked myself out of it. Definitely should have gone with my instincts -- turns out our room had BED BUGS!

Wifi didn’t work in our room, and the mattress was uncomfortable/ low in the middle. Poor breakfast overall, fake eggs, coffee was burnt, sausages were cold. Staff were friendly and room was clean.

The room was large and comfortable. Beds were great TV was a little small but good choice of channels. Restaurants and bars were close by as was shopping. The address is Gordon St., but the entrance is on Stone Rd.

Unhappy with experience left early. Room cleanliness not great found fresh blueberries on carpet....not ours...bathroom iffy rubber mat for shower disinetrgrating,,much in need of upgrade. Suspect it was a college residence in a past life. Bed only doubles and uncomfortable. Air could not cool room even when set to 68 F. Sheer curtains in shreds. Breakfast was acceptable. Would not return to this venue.

Good, not great
Good overall Good deal, good breakfast, good customer service. Pool was great, they upgraded us for free. Room wasn't overly clean though. Spiders and webs in bathroom, a centipede greeted us, and someone's hair was on the ceiling and floor. The bathtub / shower also had someone's hair and what looked like snot on the shower curtain. Overall good, but definitely more attention to detail needed.

Guelph stay
A nice basic hotel to stay at - was in town for the Hillside Festival and found this to be an easy place to crash at afterwards. The free breakfast was nice, but I wish there were a few more options for gluten-free guests. Also, I don't understand why everything was served with disposable plates, cups, and cutlery. That's a massive amount of garbage that's created every single day!

The location was great, however, the hotel is run down and has a persistent smell. My room was a nice size and had a balcony (with no chairs). The balcony likely contributed to all the earwigs I found in the bathroom, the bed, and once on me from my clothing.

Situated directly across the University of Guelph campus. Came prepared with fabreeze because other reviews said there were odours. No need. Pleasantly surprised. Our room was great. Clean,spacious, vaulted ceilings. Breakfast was great, friendly staff. Can't beat the value for price. So glad we booked here.

Comfortable and Lovely
We really liked our room on the ground floor with a sliding door onto the lawn. It was very quiet and private. The room was large, the beds were comfortable and the breakfast was good. We would stay there again.

Great Location Poor Service
One expects a good nights sleep and cleanliness - we got neither. Upon arrival - room smelled musty and damp. Purchased our own odor traps due to the man at desk saying tthat was the way it is. Beds - very uncomfortable rolled into the middle and there was a sort of a ledge in the middle that could not get over. No phone in room. Unable to call desk when we had a plumbing issue. Had to go to the desk and then was given a plunger and a plastic bag and told to fix it ourselves. "Leave the plunger at the door someone will pick it up" Hot breakfast - was advertised hot breakfast no meat first three days told order comes Wednesday. Sausages came on Thursday - no meat again Friday or Saturday and no ketchup (grocery store across from hotel???) Skunk hanging out at outside doorway two nights in a row had to go around the long way with arms full of bags etc. Just an unpleasant experience. Great location for the event we were at. Directly across from the university.

Ok for the price, but the room was old and not very clean. The air circulation wasn't great, and that left the room smelling a bit musty. The room's also aren't sound-proofed very well, which is an issue because the hallway and exit doors slam loudly.

Meets expectation from a business trip to U of G
The hotel has a great convenient location to Univ. of Guelph! The hotel environment is clean and quiet. Nice breakfast included! My only complaint is about the unusually narrow shower bath tub and the outdated shower fixtures.

good price for what we needed
Hotel was clean at check in and our room was clean, I think we were in the older side of the hotel as the hallway was a bit smelly, however, our room didn't smell. We were there simply to sleep and got up early and left.

ok for a night or two, was close to where we wanted to be. Room could've been cleaner, our bathroom wasn't cleaned after we used it (not sure it was cleaned before we used it). Breakfast was fine. The pool is small but good to cool off in.

Very nice
The hotel from the outside does not look like a place I’d stay but the rooms were amazing. Very clean, comfy, large and welcoming. Pool area is grungy and needs some work. Staff were amazing, friendly and kind. Breakfast was one of the best I’ve had at a hotel under $200. Waffles, eggs, sausage, bagels, toast, fruit, yogurt, pastries, muffins, cereals, jams, cream cheese, juices. Amazing for the price! Highly recommend and we will be back. It is not too far from st Jacobs (took us maybe 35 minutes) so was a perfect choice for us.

Needs better housekeeping.
Okay but nothing special. The air conditioner in the main areas of the hotel was not working and it was uncomfortably hot. Too hot to eat breakfast in the breakfast room. Took our food to our room. Fridge needed defrosting. Two lightbulbs needed replacing and the shower curtain needed washing.

1970s State of the Art
Very clean, comfortable room. But overall, ambience is that of a tired, well-worn facility. Calls itself a conference center, but does not have a restaurant. Breakfast was very average, and both food and supplies (plates, etc.) ran out on more than one day during my 4-day stay. On one occasion it required a trip to the front desk to get breakfast staff's attention.Another day I stood in the entry hall to eat my Cheerios--eggs were gone, and seating was overflowing. Hallways have the smell of a building that's been disinfected too many times. Decent sleeping room in a facility that feels over the hill.

Disappointing
Advertised Hot Breakfast was disappointing (no meat, only boiled eggs cut in half and left to become crusty in the warmer). The person working there was slow to appear and replenish items as they were running out. The morning breakfast is one of the most important things I research when booking a hotel. Felt misled. Will not be back.
