"The twin room i booked was clean and presentable and fitted our needs perfectly. Breakfast in the morning was good and there was a menu to choose from so you choose your own variation of breakfast.
Staff were helpful, friendly and polite, overall, even though we only stayed one night, as we were attending a family wedding nearby, i would have no hesitation on staying here again."

"What a beautiful room with incredible views. Clean, comfortable with everything you need for a night away. All rooms are adjacent to the pub in a separate building. Opening French doors give a wonderful view. We ate at the pub and the staff were friendly and very helpful. We'll definitely be back!"

"The restaurant below is absolutely lovely. The rooms are a little tired but comfortable and clean. They were also very quiet which was important to us. We would stay again."

"The check in was chaotic, I.e. no room number or lockbox instruction until after check in time, then no key in the lockbox and no telephone number to call to discover what to do next. "

"My husband and I chose to book this hotel due to its closeness to the Birmingham Utilia Arena which is a 5-10min slow walk. Brilliant location! Plus there are also lots of restaurants 5mins walk alongside the canal.
We pre booked the QParking which is next to the hotel and had a discount given with our booking.
Can’t fault the hotel it was clean and no issues but have a few bits of information for future travellers - spacious bedroom and large bed - but pillows are very soft and take your own hair dryer unless you have a strong thumb to hold button down continuously. There were two cold bottles of water in the fridge plus tea/ coffee (no biscuits!)
Bathroom is cosy (room for one) but has shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and hand soap. No lock on door which was fine for us as a couple. Families with young children beware.
Breakfast was yummy - there is a live cooking egg station! Waffle maker wasn’t working- oh well until next time.
Will definitely return if we are visiting Birmingham outskirts again."
"I don’t usually write bad reviews, but…I stayed during the heat wave at the end of May, 2026. Room air conditioner was not working. Staff acted shocked to hear this and promised to have it seen to. It was never fixed, and I suspect it can’t be. I only spoke to two other guests during my stay there, and the AC wasn’t working in either of their rooms. Spoke to the manager about it when checking out, and she too, acted surprised. Said she would have given me a 50% discount for my stay, but as I had booked through Expedia, I would have to get the refund from them. A seemingly well rehearsed and often used scam.
Also, the booking I made through Expedia was supposed to include dinner for two at the HI restaurant. Staff at check in “checked”, but said no meals were included. Manager at check out was also “so sorry” about that, as well, but there was nothing she could do.
An overall bad experience in what could be a decent hotel."
"We spent a lovely couple of nights at StayCity. Great location in the Jewellery Quarter and surprisingly close and easy into town. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was quiet with everything you need. We will stay here again."
"Pleasantly surprised with this hotel whilst attending an event at The Utilita Arena. Staff were friendly and our room was clean and comfortable and looked like it had been recently refurbished."
