สวนเขื่อนฮูเวอร์

A view looking south from atop the Hoover Dam. (No, not that one.) The park is chock full of scenic vistas this time of year. With dogwoods, redbuds, hawthorns, honeysuckles and numerous wildflowers all in bloom.

The flowers of Cercis canadensis or Eastern Redbud. These flowers are indeed edible. They don't pack a huge amount of taste, just a very slight peppery flavor. Next time you come across some, give them a try and share them with someone special.

A tiny white flower, smaller than a button, with violet stripes on the petals and violet stamens as well.

The flower of Podophyllum peltatum or May apple. This is a spring ephemeral that emerges from from rhizomes beneath the ground before the forest canopy above fully expands. The plant will produce a fruit in the summer that sort of resembles a small lemon. Both the fruit and flowers are easy to miss because the reside below the foliage. I had to lay on the ground to take this shot.

You can catch cardinals here any day, even in the rain. A beautiful park, with a lovely paved walking path to a water fowl sanctuary and many wooded paths.
