A charming village inn with comfortable and spacious room, amble and tasty traditional breakfast, friendly and welcoming staff & locals, and delicious evening meals. Great value for money too.
Everything was just fine for a one night stopover - food freshly cooked and tasty - room well furnished and clean.
Good selection of items fir breakfast.
We were taking a back roads tour of historic England and this fit the bill perfectly. An old roadside inn near Roman ruins. A good night’s sleep, good food in a quaint small village- everything we could want. The staff was wonderful.
What an absolutely fantastic place to rest your head for a night. The evening meal was great and the plate was only just big enough for the amount of food on it and the food was gorgeous.
Arrived early to drop off bag as had wedding prior to standard check in time however room had been empty night before so was permitted early access which was very helpful,. room comfortable and full breakfast great
Very friendly and helpful staff. Great food, clean comfortable room. Very small bathroom and shower. Easy parking, nice Inn with a bar in a small village. Recommend
We booked this pub/hotel for a two night stay due to going to a wedding at Hallington Mill a venue approximately 15mins drive away. Arriving on a Friday afternoon we received a lovely friendly welcome and had a evening meal on our first night. We stayed in room 7 a fantastic large bathroom which look brand new. Every member of staff we had dealings with very friendly and helpful.
The staff were very friendly, the breakfast very good. The bedroom was in need of upgrading. The “en suite” was frankly dangerous and impossible to use effectively. It was a pre formed basin, toilet and shower the size of an aeroplane toilet. To advertise the bedrooms as en suite is misleading.
A picturesque inn, in a beautiful area. Staff made us feel welcomed the moment we stepped through the door. Throughout our stay, everyone was so helpful and friendly. Clean and tidy room with spacious bathroom. Meals were excellent. Chefs are first class and every meal cooked to perfection. Quality food. A hearty breakfast provided a great start to our days. Even the dog got a sausage. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone at the Bay Horse Inn.
Our room at The Bay Horse was among the most luxurious rooms we have ever stayed in. It was spacious and bright with a large en-suite and had a reclining settee so we could really sit comfortably to read, drink our tea, watch TV, just look out of the windows. The staff were very friendly and made every effort to solve a minor radiator problem. Breakfast could not be faulted (it included home-made preserves) and there was a good evening menu in the bar, but as people with a modest appetite we were more than satisfied with a starter and a shared sweet. The staff were happy to provide two spoons! The inn is in West Woodburn, conveniently alongside the A68 road from Co.Durham to Scotland but there was no problem with traffic noise. The road here has a 30mph limit which makes it quiet and safe.
The rooms are dated, and the en-suite is a tiny all in one unit, as you may find in a caravan. Food was good. However the big problem was the LOUD music from the bar. This continued until 3:00 in the morning, despite being phoned at 1:30 and asked to turn it off, when it was turned down slightly. It eventually stopped for 20 minutes, and then started again! This inconsiderate, unprofessional and selfish attitude is why they are getting this review. From a B&B I want a good nights sleep and a reasonable breakfast. Without this how can you recommend them?
Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and had heating on which was nice as it had been raining & I was damp. The built in wardrobe had what looked like mould at the back. The on suite was a moulded plastic room. It was the smallest ever.
My biggest complaint is my evening meal. I ordered Cauliflower curry & it was terrible. A few small bits of cauliflower, 4 mange tout & 2 green beans. It wasn’t enough veg for a side dish let alone a main. Also the veg was tough like it hadn’t been cooked. The barman was nice about it and gave me another but it was just the same.
The beer was nice.
The cooked breakfast very good.
The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late.
The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.
