Michelle was a fantastic host and very responsive. She made this stay better with her warm spirit. The flat was very spacious and creative. Hermanus was a great addition to my travels.
Clean, well kept room and you can walk to a brewery at night. Shopping mall also close. Just outside hermanus and 10 minute drive to the harbour and downtown area. Michelle was very helpful and sent pin to direct us.
Only very limited ocean view, but did say only partial views, so we are ok with it. In close proximity to essential services. Hostess was very kind, understanding and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay very much. Thank you.
I spent one night here on a work trip and the only thing I'm sorry about is that it was just one night. I will definitely be back. The room came as a pleasant surprise. It is very spacious, with a basic kitchenette and a comfortable sitting area for watching TV. It is sparkling clean, with quality white cotton bed linen and a mosquito net.
The location is perfect within easy walking distance to the 24 hour Engen shop and a few good restaurants and breakfast spots across the road.
John is a wonderful host who responded to messages timeously, and understands hospitality. When I explained that I had a bakkie load of photography equipment with me, and no energy to schlepp it upstairs to my room, he generously offered the use of his personal garage. Thank you, John! Hospitality like this makes such a difference.
This was the perfect way for our family to spend a long weekend in a home-away-from-home apartment. The rainy weather kept us indoors for most of the time, but the good wifi and indoor-braai meant that we could still enjoy the time.
We had to ask for some extra towels and toiletries, but other than that, we were very happy and will definitely recommend Hornbill to family and friends.
We only stayed one night, as planned. Hornbill House is a little away from Hermanus town center but it's easy to park the car, safe, close to shopping. It has everything to cook as well as being a confortable accommodation. We would really recommend it.
We came back to SA after a big tour in the summer because we wanted to spend more time around Hermanus, to that end were on a bit of a budget this time. Hornbill House was really well priced, in a brilliant location for getting around and gave us the freedom of some self catering. The room was really cosy, the bathroom a bit rustic, but roomy and perfectly adequate. We had a problem with the water a few days after we arrived, it wasn´t the fault of the owner, the local reservoir had been allowed to dry out (!!!) anyway all efforts were made to look after us and all the staff went above and beyond to make the rest of our stay wonderful. I would certainly go back if I was taking the same sort of trip.
Arrived to a very warm welcome. We were in the garden apartment with secure gated parking. Greeted with a complimentary bottle of wine from Hornbill winery - outside braai area with dining table, cosy living room, kitchen provided everything you need (including tea/coffee & milk which was much appreciated after a long drive) - fantastic shower & bedroom. Close to shops and a 5 min drive to the sea front where we were fortunate to witness the whales. Wished we had booked a longer stay.
Beside the stairs which was killer for to carrying up 2 heavy luggages, it was the stairs to heaven. The decorations were beautifully done up. And it was near to a mall.will definitely stay there again.
Great place to stay. Large arts studio that has become a 2 bedroom apt. Great decortions. Food and shopping nearby.
I would stay here again.

The reception emailed in advance of our arrival requesting an approximate time of arrival as the reception is not manned 24/7. We were given directions and when we arrived and formalities over, we were shown to the room and facilities. The kitchen is well provisioned for self catering and the room is quite large. Neat and clean.
Hornbill House is in an exceptional location at the foot of the Hemel en Arde wine valley and also very close to the excellent whale watching locations in Hermanus. The facilities of the accommodation are well thought out and really provide everything you need for a wonderful self catering stay. Or, if you prefer you can take advantage of the nearby cafes and restaurants. The only small downside of our stay is that, due to unfotunate circumstances, we were never properly introduced to the host/owners, which would have been nice. However, we encountered few issues that we needed help with and, when we did, they were dealt with quite promptly. Overall, our time in the one bedroom apartment was a very pleasant stay at a reasonable price for what is on offer. Thoroughly recommended.
