South of the Border is a huge tourist trap south of the North Carolina and South Carolina state borders on Interstate 95-no place near Mexico, but this Mexican-style rest stop has been attracting people since the 1950's. Billboards advertising this famous truck/rest stop can be seen several states away, each sign with a catchy saying to make you smile and to count the miles till you can hang out with Pedro, the mascot of South of the Border. There are several restaurants, gas stations and plenty of shopping for knick-knacks and fireworks. There is a hotel/motel and a campground-all have use of the huge indoor pool, as well as an outdoor pool. And if that wasn't enough to do, there is also mini-golf and a reptile exhibit. The building are sprawled over several blocks, each one painted bright colors and lit well by neon lights at night.
