Youth Hostel Grindelwald
8/10 Good
"starting right off i wouldn’t call this a youth hostel. i was a little hesitant booking my first hostel experience but considering the price of every hotel in the region i decided to go with this place seeing as it said youth hostel, and i am a young solo traveller. however there were tons of people, i’d say majority, that were not youth at all. average age i saw looked in their mid 30s. so either limit who’s coming in to maintain the youth aspect of the property name, or just change the name! location in grindelwald was good, definitely the right choice to stay in this area instead of interlaken, lauterbrunnen, etc. the only downside is that the place is on the top of a big hill, and if you miss the last bus up at 6:30pm ish, you gotta make the 15 minute walk, and it was tough. bathroom & shower situation was good & clean, no complaints. the room had big locker/cubby things that had a key in the slot, but no way to actually lock them. overall rooms had a lack of charging outlets too, the room for four people i was in only had two outlets. breakfast was free & included which was a nice touch but it was nothing more than some bread & cheese, a bit of cereal, no hot food. towels could be rented for 3 francs with a 10 franc cash deposit. there was a communal fridge, microwave & kettle, no kitchen access. i went in early sept where it was still warm out, the room got very humid & hot without air con. overall enjoyed my stay though, the price is unmatched to others in the area."

Hotel Alpenhof
10/10 Excellent
"Our room had probably one of the most spectacular views that we have ever had in any hotel we have stayed in around the world! We stayed in room 304. The room was large and the balcony was great to hang out on and look at the spectacular view. The breakfast was really good and the coffee is excellent! Also the staff is there to help you with questions or assistance, you might need. The one thing you do need to be aware of is the hotel sits about seven minutes walk from the train station, but the hill is a very steep incline! I would say, if you are unable to walk up five flights of stairs without stopping, you should absolutely consider taking a taxi or making arrangements with the hotel shuttle. Taking your luggage up the hill and down the hill is quite a balancing act. Also, the hotel is very close to a grocery store, which is a great place to pick up snacks to enjoy on your balcony after a long day out and about."
