Let me count the ways.Firstly, we're very disappointed you had an unfortunate first impression of our award winning, historic hotel.Without notice, you arrived – and we allowed you to check in 3 hours early. Perhaps that was our fault. We were absolutely still ameliorating the hotel from a busy previous night.The Riverview Mansion Hotel is a Victorian gem nestled in the heart of the Shawnee National Forest. It's a classic boutique destination which has been in business for a century. It has undergone extensive renovations and upgrades. New roof, all new windows, new electric and plumbing, all new HVAC, even new rugs and fixtures. It also boasts period accurate antique furnishings. Perhaps not everyone's taste. It is also our home, we're blessed to say. I don't know how you did not gather that, as we've been in business for over a decade and have (as you rightly point out) hundreds of positive reviews.As one would imagine during mid day, there is lots of activity going on. By early evening, we boast quite a cozy and relaxed ambiance. You should have stuck around!“false advertising...” We literally have thousands of pictures online.“paper thin walls…” This brick mansion even has mostly brick interior walls.“no shower in the room...” The room you booked online clearly states a jet tub.“water in the tub...” LOL you checked in so early, it didn't have time to dry.Now let’s mention what you did seem to enjoy…. You had time to drink the complimentary bottled water, wine and chocolates. You also used the bed and the hand towels. You used the bar of soap and threw the trash In garbage. Did you enjoy the jet tub, as well?!? Of course we have to clean up the entire room after your short stay.Here's to seasoned travelers who take the time to research. And to those who can roll with the punches and appreciate the eclectic. Here's to a real Americana experience in the heartland.Beth

Sorry you had an unfortunate stay. We take these matters very seriously and will make appropriate corrections. We always provide a hot continental breakfast. Not sure why, but you mustn't have seen the crock full of eggs and cheese? Which is the only reason we had the "white bread" to make sandwiches. If we are told about unpleasant issues during your stay we can often remedy. The website on which you booked clearly states, however that there is a $49 'cleaning fee' and there is a 'free continental breakfast.' We are not a B&B and do not claim to be. Occasionally folks looking for that are displeased when they arrive. Proper prior research, especially when booking a boutique experience, goes a long way. We have an onsite lounge and restaurant. Very unique and fun if that's what you're looking for. We have a world class wine shop featuring the best of the midwest, and a local craft beer selection second to none. We are located in the middle of nowhere; to some that's part of the charm. If you're looking for a McDonalds, however, not so much. Bugs (never heard this before)? Not sure what to make of that other than to remind you that you were staying in the middle of the Shawnee National Forest, next to the banks of the Ohio in Springtime. We do our best to regularly and organically combat this issue. This old house has been a hotel for almost a century. It's been called a mansion since Victorian times and a river-view since before the levee was built. There's only ever been 'street parking' since days of horse and carriage.Tradition has its good and bad aspects... We are regularly complemented on our breakfast and told we have THE BEST coffee! "Little oranges" btw, are called mandarins.
