"The Congress is a historic hotel right at the Southern end of Michigan Avenue. Clearly, it's seen better days. Now, they are restoring it floor by floor. But, the main entry to the hotel is pretty rough. Some of the floors haven't been rehabbed, the bar is possibly the poorest bar in terms of quality of any of the historic hotels I've stayed in during my Chicago trips. The check in process is largely like going to the DMV. There's not a lot of customer service or friendly welcoming banter. No valet parking, there isn't daily maid service, either. The room I had was pretty nice, as it had been on the rehabbed side of the South tower. There was only one working elevator on this tower, so the rides up and down were long and packed. The bed was comfortable, the pillows were fluffy, and the bathroom was really good. The Congress is typically less expensive than the more upgraded spots such as the Blackstone, Hilton, or Palmer House."
"I enjoyed the property's elegance and location, with all the sightseeing sites within walking distance of the hotel. I also enjoyed the Irish pub and restaurant in the main lobby."
Homewood Suites by Hilton Chicago Downtown South Loop
10/10 Excellent
"The staff everywhere were so friendly and helpful. They were on top of every question or request. Room was clean. Breakfast was sufficient and had a variety of healthy and fresh items."
"The room was big. It had a huge bathtub and a separate shower. The beds were comfortable too.
They charge you for amenities and that is the gym, dining, and casino. They should pay you. The casino is very expensive to eat at and the food was just OK. If they had microwaves in the room, I'd say bring your own food but they don't. The staff in the hotel, dining/ casino are not very friendly."
"Beautiful scenery. Staff were really pleasant and grateful they had a nice view of Lake Michigan. Hotel is kept clean and grateful that it was close to all of the highlights of my trip maybe one day I will come back for C2 E2 opposed to my own day trip!"
"Me and my buddy got an 8 bedded room but it was nice! We were on the opposite side of the subway so it was a good nights of sleep! You’ll def see homeless on the side of the building but they never were too much of a worry, if you don’t bother them they won’t bother you.
They also had a pool table there which was nice to meet new travelers. Everything is also so central that walking a little bit gets you close to the red line to travel even further up Chicago if you’d like to take the sub!
Would stay again :)"
"Excellent valet service. One front desk attendant was friendly but the other couldn’t be bothered to stop reading her book and assist us. Bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious and clean."
