If you love airplanes and everything to do with aviation, a holiday in Gardermoen will hit the spot.
Gardermoen is an area in Norway that is known mainly because Oslo Airport is located there. In other words, it is the perfect place to visit for anyone who has a passion for flying and all things aviation. In addition to the impressive airport, there are several museums in the area that you should visit.
If you don’t fly into Oslo Airport, then make the journey to the airport to watch planes landing and taking off. Remember that you can’t go through the security checkpoint without a ticket, but if you are passionately interested in planes and would like to spend a day at the airport, you can often buy cheap tickets for NOK 2-300. That’s not a bad price for a ringside seat for viewing aircraft landing and taking off for an entire day.
And while you are at Oslo Airport, it’s only a short trip to two of the museums in the area. First, take in the SAS Museet (SAS Museum), which exhibits everything to do with aviation. Here you can see pilot uniforms, an aircraft cabin, different models of airplane and also try your hand at the controls in a brand new flight simulator. There is also a separate corner for small children in case the grown-ups want to take a closer look at some of the exhibitions.
After the SAS Museum, proceed along to Forsvarets Flysamling Gardermoen (Armed Forces Aircraft Collection Gardermoen), which is a mecca for aviation buffs. Exhibiting more than 40 aircraft, the exhibition includes “Start”, the first plane in Norway and a fighter jet from the Cold War.
Complete your visit to Gardermoen with a visit to Ullensaker Museum and Trandumskogen minnesmerke (Trandumskogen Memorial). World War II is the central focus of the museum and you can see many different objects on display from this period.

Not only can you see planes land and take off, you can also examine different aircraft up close at the museums.
