Overall this was the worst quality room and most expensive of our entire Sri Lanka trip. The toilet didn’t flush and the room was extremely small overall.
The biggest problem was that on the final morning of our stay, we left the room for two hours to get breakfast and when we returned my backpack was obviously tampered with. My phone charger was outside my bag and had been put inside, with the bag subsequently zipped up. I was disturbed but also didn’t immediately notice anything was missing at the time (computer, camera and other valuables still present) and carried on traveling as our driver was waiting us outside. A few hours after leaving in the next city I noticed $400 of cash was taken from my bag and I realized it had definitely occurred at Mango House during the housekeeping hours.
I brought this to the attention of the hotel management and they offered zero apologies. The owner exchanged WhatsApp’s with me and also offered no apologies and continuously said it was my fault for not keeping it in the safe. While I agree maybe I am the idiot, realize I stayed in four other properties during my trip in Sri Lanka and ALL had surveillance cameras. This one did not and had very bad and clumsy locks on the doors, especially given the price of the room.
Avoid this place at all costs, if not only for lack of professionalism and accountability on the part of the ownership. Was a regrettable end to 10 fabulous days in Sri Lanka.
